Paying For Your Shower?
Who is paying or paid for your shower? Is it wrong for my mom to ask MIL to chip in ?

My parents are paying for it and on top of that, they bought us our furniture! MIL never contacted my mom to offer to chip in or even if she needed any help. Doesnt sit well with me, but what can ya do?!?

My parents and my MIL are... I think its definately nice that the MIL chip in, but if she didnt offer my parents wouldnt have asked...
If your mom is comfortable asking her then by all means ask...

My parents paid for mine & at the last minute (on the day of) my MIL offered to help pay for it. Depending on the person, I think it's a tricky thing to come out and ask, but perhaps you/your mom can ask if she'd like to be involved in the overall planning of it & then see if she offers to help out financially?

My Mom is paying for mine... I think MIL offered to chip in, but they ended up dividing up the cost of the furniture so they are both paying the same in the end between the nursery and the shower.
Maybe if your Mom is comfortable, she can ask your MIL if there is anything that she wants to do for the shower and see where the convo goes from there???

My IL's are paying for the venue. My mom paid for my bridal shower even though my in laws wanted to contribute so they insisted they are paying for the baby shower.
My mom is taking care of the details like cake, decorations, invites. Well, she gave me some money for it but I am really the one doing the leg work

hmm. my shower is going to be a surprise but my mom asked me for a list of people and said she wanted to call my MIL. I asked my mom if she was going to ask MIL to chip in, and she said yes. I was actually shocked because my mother is never like that. She feels it is her grandchild too and she should help. MIL did not offer to help at all with my bridal shower. My mom is single and I know it's a lot on her financially, so I can def see where shes coming from.

So instead MIL I believe is taking care of centerpieces, games and favors.

My mom is paying and my mom and sis are organizing. My MIL likely won't even RSVP and is super cheap so I would be shocked if she offered even a penny. My mom knows the history and won't ask my MIL because she knows there is no point.

My Mom and Sisters gave me a very small shower at my sister's house. They cooked all of the food, baked the cake and cookie favors themselves. They did the same for my baby shower 6.5 years ago when I was pregnant with my first daughter.

I think it's wrong to ask unless she was involved in the decision of where it is, the food, etc. Mine was at my aunt's and my mom bought most of the catered food, but MIL made a few things. I personally wouldn't hit someone up with a big bill if they weren't involved in the decision over whether it would be at a house, restaurant, etc.

Honestly I'm not sure how my shower will work out. I paid for my sister's shower (threw her one in a restaurant for her 1st child, 8 yrs ago, then I also threw her a "sprinkle" for her 2nd at her house a few years ago)....the problem is my sister only works part time and has 2 kids of her own, I know money is tight, and regardless of whether I paid for her shower, I wouldn't want her to feel obligated and put herself in a hole! My mom lives in our house and doesn't have much money at all (even though she usually offers to put in a few hundred to help out just b/c that's what she can afford). My MIL would probably offer to chip in, BUT I honestly don't want to let her have much say in the venue, favors etc. since she is a little scattered and her ideas are all over the place (she'd probably have my shower like 60 miles from my house just b/c she drove past a random place she liked  )....SO DH and I had already discussed that maybe we'll pay for it ourselves....we'll see what happens when the time comes though. My best friend might not hear any of that since I also chipped in for her shower she might want to help out so it's not all on us.
eta: as far as your MIL, I would say just be subtle and hint by asking if she has any ideas for favors etc and see if she offers to help out. Otherwise, I agree w/ the previous poster, if the venue is already picked it might be a little awkward to insinuate she should chip in as far as that goes (totally different if she offers, but to ask outright might be weird).

I live OOS so my Mom is paying for the one in NY and my SIL is paying for the one here. My MIL passed a few years ago but, if she were here she would chip in if I were just having one.

For DD1 my mother couldn't afford to host a shower and lived out of state. It was looking like I wasn't going to have one, so MIL stepped up and hosted/paid for a beautiful shower for us!

My mother paid for the whole thing. My MIL said she was not suppose to help pay for it. She said she had no money. Her name still went on the invitation.

My MIL is paying fpr mine, pnly because my mom isn't alive and when I told her me and DH will pay for it, she refused.
I am getting everything together though. And Im paying for favors and the cake.
