Paying for an estimate
Have you ever paid for an estimate to have work done on your house? I have never paid for one in the past, I thought most Contractors gave free estimates. We called a plumber to get an estimate to put a utility sink in our basement laundry room and they charge $40 for the estimate (comes off the final bill if we decide to use them). Is this becoming the norm these days? I would rather not have to pay!

Re: Paying for an estimate
I believe sometimes renovations may charge for an estimate, like if they have to draw up plans or something....(like for a kitchen reno , perhaps)

Re: Paying for an estimate
seems like a little much for a fairly simple job. I would call someone else.

Re: Paying for an estimate
i thought it sounded high for such a small job. we are having a tough time finding a recommended plumber that can work in the Town of Islip.
