Paycheck dilema...
Ok, so I'm a little torn on what to do here....
I got paid yesterday... Let's say my paycheck is usually x amount. Well at the end of the month, I also get a commission check for y amount. X amount is obviously the same everytime I get paid, and Y amount is usually around the same each month give or take a couple hundred...
Well yesterday I looked at my checking account, and I got X, fine, then my Y check was about 3 times the amount it usually is. This HAS to be a mistake. I don't get any kind of quarterly bonus the way my package is set up, so it can't be that...
Now, that being said... I don't want to tell anyone because I'm greedy and want the money...lol it was my company's mistake.... But, I'm assuming they are going to figure it out and end up pulling the funs out of my account. Now, is there a cut off time in which they can pull out a mistake they made on my paycheck?

Re: Paycheck dilema...
I would let them know. I have worked for companys that screwed up and went back into employees funds after a good year. Hey you never know it could be true and not a mistake.

imo, you didnt earn the $$ and therefore you should tell them. If you made a mistake like that, wouldnt you want your money back?
There probably is some statute of limitations, im not sure of what it is though.

I would tell them now. They will figure it out and you will have to pay it back. To do otherwise would have a negative impact on their opinion of you. Plus there's a chance it might not be a mistake.

i would let them know. Be honest. If they find out later and you didn't tell them, it will only make you look bad.

if i were you i would mention it. i'm a firm believer in karma and this may come back to bite you in the azz, which we dont want!
the same thing happened to me at my old job. they paid me 10% commission instead of 5% which doubled the amount. i told them and they removed the funds....however, they did it AGAIN the following month. so "fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice, shame on me!"
if it happens again, keep it. thats karma paying you back for being good and telling the first time!

Here's the problem.. it's a commission check.. so I don't really know if it is a mistake or not because I make a certain percentage off what everyone in my department sells....
I guess I could ask...

I would ask them. You have nothing to lose. if it's yours great!! If it's not, it wasn't yours to begin with.
Is that assistant doing payroll? If it's a mistake, that would make sense...

Re: Paycheck dilema...
I would ask for a breakdown of the commission.
If they made a mistake they WILL reverse it later on.

That's the annoying part! My company just started using ipay, so you can log on to view your statements, but there is no breakdown on the commission statement in there. I just emailed a guy in HR asking for a breakdown though, so we'll see...

Re: Paycheck dilema...
My ex-boss' mom used to make out my commission checks and she often paid me the same commissions twice.
Even tho I couldn't stand him, I went back to them every single time and told them they had paid me twice.
It's a question of morals and principles.....I never would have kept that $$.

My company made a mistake once and paid me twice.
Well, before I even realize the mistake in my account they had ALREADY reversed it so I just want to let you know that they could do that.

They have my comp plan. I sent an email, they told me what it was. It isn't on my plan here, it's on theirs in headquarters. Might have been an update I never received. I'm waiting for the revised plan to be sent.

ask for the breakdown- you should have it monthly anyway... so you know you are getting what you should be getting- how would you know if you were getting underpaid.
