Paver maintenance and weeds

How do you keep your pavers looking neat? Ours have a bunch of weeds sprouting up and there's some areas where there's moss growing in between the cracks. Is there something you should put down or do I just have to keep pulling the weeds?

thanks! i'll have to try that. all of our moss is in the areas where the sprinkler would hit. the moss comes up easily, but still a PITA.

They sell a sand/polymer mix that is wonderful. You powerwash the weeds and moss out of the pavers and apply this stuff with a broom, hit it with water and it seals the cracks Chat Icon We do it every other year....great stuff!!

Re: Paver maintenance and weeds

I have this as well, and i was wondering if the landscapers would take care of it, so far they havn't done a thing.

For 1200 a year, they really don't have to do much, i have a tiny patch of grass on the side of the house, and the front curb.

I am going to call tomorrow and see what the deal is. If they tell me its extra or i have to take care of it i will not be happy

roundup

I agree it kills them almost instantly, but be careful to keep away from anything you don't want to kill

Re: Paver maintenance and weeds

My dad owns a paving company and what he always tells people is roundup. The sand which a previous poster is speaking of is called sandlock or polymeric sand. It does help. Problem is grass can grow in almost any area...cut grass blows on patio, it grows in a porous area. Weed killer...it works wonders Chat Icon HTH

PS - i gave the non-chemical way to solve the problem... and cheapest too.
if you have a tea kettle boil the water and dump it on some. if it doesn't work for you (water takes a little while to appear to be working) then i'd invest in the chemicals...

Re: Paver maintenance and weeds

The moss is terrible on our patio and sidewalk. To be honest, with all this rain we have just let it go b/c we aren't using the outside anyway. We started clearing it out an dthan it just came back.

Vinegar and water is very cheap, very effective (almost as good as the Round-up... I did a comparison test last year...) and you can have DC do the spraying for you.... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
