Parents with a Nanny do you expect a gift?

I babysit for a 2 yr old and a 5 yr old. I love the family I sit for, she is a great friend of mine. Last year I bought the two kids personalized books and other things and the parents a gift card to a restaurant. This year Im pregnant and we really don't have the money since Ill be out of work for a while, she is having her 3rd the same time I am and won't go back to work till after the summer.
I know the kids are getting a ton of toys so Im not sure what to do about a gift.
I was going to take them to Build a Bear but that can get costly too. Then I was thinking 50dollar gift card to Old Navy for the kids and not getting the parents anything.
Last year I did not anything from them, a few extra dollars for the week. I really don't expect anything since I love them so much and honestly it doesn't bother me. I just can't afford to go overboard this year.
I do take the kids out a lot for special days when the 5 yr old has a day off from school and I take the 2 yr old out all the time.

No way, I would never expect a gift. Why don't you make some special holiday themed crafts (like with their hand or footprints) for the kids to give their parents?

Imo u have it mixed up. They should be getting something for YOU. I have no nanny but I have a dog walker. She buys my son something small like $10 and we give her $100

When I used to be a Nanny I would get something for like $10 or less. I didnt do it because I felt I had too more like because I include them in my list of friends and family

i dont think you are required to be getting a gift at all!! we give our nanny and babysitter gifts on their birthdays and christmas, but i do not expect them to reciprocate. i actually feel bad when they do bc they are working so hard for their money, i dont want them spending it back on us, KWIM?
they usually do give the kids something small though - we have gotten a bag full of their fave snacks/candy, some puzzles/games, stuff like that. nothing $ but something they know the boys will love.

ITA..We have a babysitter one day a week and I gave her a visa gift card. She got the twins their own personalized picture frame and I feel she spent way too much. I feel terrible and wish I gave her more. I know she works hard for her $$ and probably doesn't have alot. I think if you want to get them something a small token gift is perfect!

Thanks so much! I feel bad that last year I went all out and this year I just can't. I think Ill take the kids out for a special day on Friday for lunch and they love the carousel and train at The Source Mall. They will love that!

Absolutely not, I don't want her spending her money on us. In fact when she got my DD a $30 birthday gift I gave her an extra $100 a few weeks later and told her it was just because we love you. Nannies provide the most most precious gift of helping us raise our kids and I couldn't imagine anything more.

I don't expect aanything but if I were you I would get the children something small as a token gift. You don't need to get the parents anything at all though.

Re: Parents with a Nanny do you expect a gift?

I have been babysitting for a little girl for 3+ years. I do get her a gift every year. This year I painted letters for her room (she is 3 and is all about recognising her name this year) in shades of purples with flowers, which is her favorite thing right now, and I also hand crocheted her a scarf and hat set.

Even though they are handmade gifts it still cost me about $35 for all of the materials.

As far as a gift for her Mom...well, we made a nice picture frame together that we wrapped up and will be giving the Mom, and I crocheted her an infinity scarf also.

But usually it is just whatever crafty gift the little girl and I make together for the Mom, I don't buy her her own present normally.

Re: Parents with a Nanny do you expect a gift?

I'm a nanny and normally I just buy for the child. I end up spending as much on her as my neices and nephews bc I'm vey close to her, with her everyday, and feel like I'm her 2nd mom. This yr was the first yr I got a gift for the parents too. We def bonded a lot this yr and I bought a keepsake to symbolize our growing friendship- something that has particular meaning between us. Seeing as this is prob our last yr together Chat Icon

We have a nanny, and we don't expect anything from her. Last year she got DD a few small toys and an outfit. Then she gave us some chocolates and an ornament.

We gave her $$ and an ornament from DD.

I didn't expect anything from her. We get Birthday and Mother's day gifts as well..

I don't get my employer a gift, but my boss gets me a gift...I think it's the same concept.

NO way not in a million years.
I know she bought them stuff, but that's because she's a crazy shopaholic and loves to dress them.

I don't gift up at work either. I buy for people who do a lot of work for me and my group.

I think if you have given in previous years, you should give a very small token gift just to the kids.
