OK, so my daycare doesn't have conferences BUT I did get a report card once after he was there for several months. It was cool. It had a bunch of different categories and subcategories and rated him (does all the time, does some of the time, never does). They'll probably talk to you about his development and social skills.

Re: Parent teacher conference for a 8 mos old?
The day care I worked in also set up conferences for every class, every age. If the parents wanted to come great. If not, OK. We had a booklet on each child. Each child had their own COR(E)(Child Observation Record (Evaluation) package in their folder. Conferences were held in Nov. and in May. The CORE is broken down into different categories like Social, Emotional, Physical, etc. skills. It was a "checklist" and then we take that "list" and summarize it into an "essay" type to present to the parents. We were able to tell if we coulud recommend EI for services, how the child was doing, etc. Now, I have been dealing with EI for DS for about a month now. When they came, the evaluator whipped out...yep. You got it..The CORE booklet!
Did we (the teachers) think it was silly to have to do this on infants. Yes. Of course we did, but, now that I look back, I think it may have helped a lot of parents see where their child is at.
A lot of centers may not use the "COR". They may have a different "Packet" or way of presenting it to you.

We don't have conferences, but I did receive a report regarding her abilities, etc. a while back. I don't remember what the "formal" name for it was and it's packed away somewhere, but I thought it was nice actually!

Wow...I wouldn't want this at all. I think my kid will have to be evaluated enough in his life, I certainly don't want him to be evaluated before 1.
