it's still early for me but i probably would never have thought about it. Now that you put the idea in my head, i'll put *something* in my car (when i'm in the 3rd trimester), just in case.

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

I didn't have anything in the car, but I actually had a waterproof pad on the couch where I used to sit all the time, and I even slept with one under me in bed (we had just gotten a new mattress before DD was born).

It didn't make a difference... my water never broke until my OB broke it when it was time to push and I was at 10 cm. :)

Couldn't hurt to have a towel in the car to sit on... of course, odds are it won't really do anything if your water does break, depending on if you're a gusher or a dripper. Good luck!

I'm 35 weeks today and my doctor said my baby's head is very low as well and that's why I feel like someone punched me in the pelvis. I didn't even think about my water breaking! Thank you for the thought. I had a c section with ds1 so it never happened for me either.

I put a towel in the car once I hit full term. My job is an hour's drive from home/the hospital so I wanted to have one just in case.

I didn't have a towel and even if did it wouldn't have helped! My water broke in bed, well I heard it pop and than stood up and gushed all over the floor. I leaked for over 12 hrs. No towel was going to help me!!! I hope my water breaks again before my scheduled c-sec! Having your water break isn't that bad just messy!!

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

No, but when it gets to be that time I will probably lay a garbage bag down on the sheet and then a towel on top. I leaked all over MIL's car because my water broke at acupuncture (I had a steady leak, lol) and I had to drive it home.

My water never broke with DD1 but I'm nervous about it this time around. I keep 2 towels in my car lol. Yesterday was my last day of work, but I always had a spare pair of pants with me. I was wondering if it's worth putting something on our bed too...

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

With my DD, my water broke at home at 38 weeks. So I was super paranoid that it would happen again with DS. I also had a new car and I put one of those chuck pads on the drivers seat starting at about 36 weeks. of course my water never broke with him and I made it to my scheduled section at 39 weeks.

my husband "borrowed" "piss pads" from an ambulance (he's an EMT) & plans to line the carseats, couch & bed with them once I get a little closer to my due date! (I'm 35 weeks)

meanwhile I'm a teacher & my worst nightmare is my water breaking while I'm teaching 8th grade!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

This. I was sleeping, rolled over, felt a pop and thought I started peeing my pants. Lol. Went to bathroom and realized what happened. Everyone is different but it wasn't that bad at all. Granted I went through 4 overnight pads before even leaving for the hospital! We did put a towel on my seat on the way to the hospital. Never even thought about it before that time. I'm worried about it happening on the subway this time! Lol.

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

I kept a towel in the car. My water broke at home for DS. I have a big stain on my mattress from where my water broke. Since I was on bed rest I did not realize I was leaking. I went and sat in a chair and when I got up I realized my water broke. I had a slow leak.

I have first hand experience on this subject and I can tell you not to bother with the towel. It will be utterly useless. LOL I was driving when my water broke. It was like a freaking fire hydrant. I kid you not. It was completely insane. All I kept thinking was "Shit! This is a lease!"My mom was screaming at me to pull over but there was no way in hell I was moving. I did not want to know or see what was going on. Not to mention I was not about to jump out of the car on the side of Rt 110 with a "leakage issue" to put it mildly. I stopped at home and my mom put garbage bags on the seat and on the floor so I could sit. It was pretty funny come to think of it.

Put a beach towel in the car for your own peace of mind.

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

I dont have any experience with this personally but my sisters water broke in the drivers seat of her car and made a mess. She cleaned it when she got home from the hosp. Not really sure why my BIL didn't clean it but whatever.

Also, at my childbirth class, the RN told us to put a mattress cover on our mattresses because if the water breaks in our bed it could leave a mess and/or stains. I am sure thats the last thing on your mind when your water breaks though!

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

We didn't do that. I know so many woman go into labor before their water breaks and their water ends up breaking in the hospital.

My water didn't break until I was 10 cm dilated and ready to push!

ITA. They broke my water in the hospital but the amount of fluid that came out was insane. I also leaked for several hours too!

Re: paranoid about water breaking (poll)

My DD's head was really low too- for weeks and weeks! I swear I would feel like she was going to fall out of me when I was walking around!

But I never thought to put a towel in the car or at work even.

And when I went into labor, my water never broke- the Dr had to break it for me once I got to L&D
