Re: Painting tools.
We used Purdy brand rollers and brushes. I heard they were good and last a long time as long as you wash them after use.
As far as edging, we used good old fashion painters tape. I think some of those tools are gimmicks. If you just tape off the areas you don't want painted, you should be fine.
And don't forget to pull off the painters tape within a couple hours of finishing. Otherwise, it doesn't peel off good.
Good Luck!

Re: Painting tools.
indoors, I'm presuming.... I'm very into disposable stuff to aid in cleanup....
we bought disposable plastic drop cloths, a lot of blue tape for taping the ceiling, a few GOOD rollers, a few cheap roller handles, paint trays with disposable liners, and those small (roughly 3" square) pads with the red plastic backing for edging around door and window frames.
Don't forget the wall prepping... spackle, fine grit sandpaper, a clean wide spackle knife (I am the spackle queen ), and if there are larger holes, patch supplies. also, a screwdriver to remove all the switchplates (and likely a few new ones... I always end up replacing them when I paint.)
finally, a good low/no vox paint (with at least 20% extra) and the best low/no vox primer you can find.
spackle, tape, and move furniture the day before... on the day-of, patience, and never overloading your roller will give you flawless results....
oh, and almost forgot! A coupon to a good take-out place and a cold 6 pk of beer... that's the MOST important thing to have while painting
