Painting a fireplace white...with pic

We have a brick fireplace that was painted red...Chat Icon !!! I am thinking of priming and painting white, then eventually veneering it! But what are our feelings on painting a fireplace white...
Here is the fireplace! I am thinking white and adding a dark wood shelf where it extends. Thoughts, idea's and opinions...

We painted ours when we were redoing it. Our painter did it. He did it with a spray gun so he can get into every crevice etc...at first DH hated the idea of it and thought it would look awful but now he sees I was right...it looks great!!

When I was away at college my parents mentioned they were thinking about doing this. I told them it was a terrible idea! Well, the next day they emailed me pics of my siblings who happened to be standing in front of our fireplace...which had been painted white! They had already done it before they even asked me!

That was many years ago and I've loved it since I first saw it in those pictures. I say go for it!

i say go for it. our painter painted ours (it matches the walls, not white) and i love the way it looks, especially with the contrast of the white mantel. pics in my house album.

i wanted to do it to our monster fireplace but jason HATES the idea. ive seen it done on HGTV many times and it always looks good. i agree on using the spray paint, it will be a lot easier.

Your fireplace is beautiful Diana! Ours would be if they left the brick as is, but nope it's painted red. I am trying to convince Ted! I told him it's only temporary until we can veneer it with stone or something. But we have a list of things to do before hand that is six miles long.
