Jihad John is believed to be dead, as reported earlier today. Wonder if this is some beginning of retaliation, even if it was due to a US drone. I fear this is just the beginning.
I would not be surprised. At least 118 dead being he hostage at a concert hall

What are you talking about? Jihad John? Retaliation?
He is the leader/main speaker of ISIS and is believed to have been killed earlier today or late last night in a US drone strike.
He is the Brit that was the one holding the knife to the throats of three American beheadings, two Japanese and more. He was killed late Thursday night by a drone attack led by the US.

Apparently it is more than dozens...100 people in the concert hall are also dead. There is a huge foreign presence in Paris and many of them want to take over the city and the world. I am not surprised by this in the least, but I am sick over it. Something must be done. Unfortunately you must fight fire with fire. No amount of talking or goodwill will work. I fear there may be a huge war on the horizon...honestly, looks like it has started already.
I agree. You can't reason with terrorist. Something must be done but I'm not sure you can ever stop stuff like this especially in a country with open borders. I hope that whatever we and our allies do we can help prevent another attack like this.
I agree. The goal shouldn't be open borders but isolation. I'm liberal, but we here in The US are allowing in Syrian refugees. It's just not the time in this period of history to be doing that. It's a grave mistake to be doing that.

I just got home and I'm able to catch up on cnn.
I'm so sick by this. It makes me not want to leave my house. You can't go anywhere without that fear. School. Movies. Mall. It's sickening.
I remember being in the mall with dd1 when she was a few months old and thinking if someone came in right now and started shooting where would I run to. I shouldn't be scouting escape routes at the mall.
May these victims RIP

There is a huge foreign presence in Paris. That hostage situation at the supermarket months ago....the terrorists were on their way to a Jewish school and couldn't get there bc there was an accident blocking them.

I know it's no help but you just can't think that way. There's good in the world. There have always been wars and mayhem and tragic events and battles. We have strong armed forces and intelligence agencies working tirelessly. You just have to hope for the best, you know? And be vigilant.

I was just saying this to my dh. We wanted, prayed for, went through fertility treatments to bring our girls into this world and this world is so sick. I hate taking them places in fear that some lunatic whether it be a terrorist or not will decide that today is the day to take out innocent lives. I fear sending my girls to school. I feel physically ill. Why can't we all just get along? I know its not that simple or easy but its just so scary.

I know what you mean. Hours ago I just spent $100 ordering tickets to take the family to the peanuts movie ftomorrow and now I'm ready to bag it. The randomness of these targets is what scares me the most. A Cambodian restaurant? A heavy metal concert? If these were iconic national targets it would obviously be equally horrifying but a little less totally frightening :/ what a world....

I haven't turned cnn off. Well first the concert was a US band playing.
Also, they did multiple attacks. That was their strategy. Do one attack and all the cops run there so they're free to do other attacks.
Yes they're random bc they aren't well guarded as in what they would consider a target. Any bar. Any restaurant. Not like going to Madison square garden where you know the check bags and some places you even have metal detectors.
There's no way every single place in a huge city can be monitored. Scary how vulnerable everyone is.

its only a matter of time before nyc is hit. These people are animals. France is super lax with security. You can drive right into their country without anyone checking anything. The concert goers had no security. No body/bag checks. These terrorists knew this. They've been to the Bataclan before (I am guessing) and knew their lack of security protocol.

Re: Over 150 dead in Paris attacks
It's just so scary. I know we have to live our lives but it's so hard when something like this happens. Especially knowing that we live in the prime target for terrorists. I was getting my nails done last night and some weird man walked in. It made me think how easy it is for one crazy person to just walk in and start shooting. Ugh, how do we get over this very real fear?

Doesn't matter if there were body/bag checks or metal detectors. They killed the security guards at the front, so those types of precautions are useless as there is no one to stop them.

Re: Over 150 dead in Paris attacks
I've seen this in this thread a few times- "there is a huge foreign presence in Paris." I'm not sure what that means here. Every city has foreigners.
As for Syrian refugees, France has not taken in as many as they should. I also don't think not letting them in is the answer. I think some people really need to read up on the Syrian refugee crisis.
I'm not sure how I feel about the Schengen zone and open borders. The borders are open, but it is like travelling from state to state in the US. There are a lot of other controls in place, so it isn't like you can just wander into that country and stay there.

I think it's good to get your insight and perspective being that you're abroad! As far as the refugees - yeah, many of them are escaping the same people no one wants around. Many are innocent. But I would imagine (and maybe I'm wrong) that taking in people can also lead to the bad ones getting in. I'm not sure what the answer is. It's just very scary.
