Ovarian Cysts
Has anyone been told they have ovarian cysts and to not get pregnant while having them? I have 2 cysts, one on each ovary, the left one is the one they are worrying about, went to get an ultrasound 6 weeks ago and then another yesterday and its gotten bigger. DH and I were going to start trying but my dr wants me to wait. I have to go back in 4 weeks to see if it got smaller or grew...he said he may have to remove it. I guess my question is, has anyone had a cyst removed and how long did you have to wait before ttc? TIA

Re: Ovarian Cysts
Do they know what.type of cyst it is? I had an endometrioma measuring 5.5 cm on my right ovary. We had been TTC for 9 months with no luck when it was diagnosed. I had surgery in April, was given the green light to TTC 4 weeks later and was pregnant in the beginning of July! HTH!

Re: Ovarian Cysts
I have had 2 cysts removed, both were endometriomas. I never knew I had the 1st cyst, this was before we started TTC. The pain got progessively worse and one night had to go to the ER, I could not take the pain. The doctors later verified it was a cyst. My OBG had it removed and recommended we start right after my next AF, 5 weeks. The 2nd cyst was removed in order to start IVF, my RE thought it would give a better opportunity for more follies to grow. Unfortunately , the cyst returned the following month. My RE recommended to monitor it, and that as long as it does not grow and it does not hurt he has no problem with moving foward and not having me go through another lap.
I would suggest asking your doc to find out what type of cysts you develop, some can be harmful, especially if your continues to grow. GL!!!!

Re: Ovarian Cysts
I think he said they were functional cysts? Would they know what type of cyst it is just from an ultrasound? I have so many questions in my head, like whats the chances of damaging the ovary when they remove the cyst?? And of course my head goes right to cancer I know i'm way ahead of myself- but i never had these issues before i had my DD a year and a half ago.

Re: Ovarian Cysts
Typically they can tell via ultrasound based on how it looks. Functional cysts are actually semi common and can go away on their own. I would try not to worry but if you are really scared you should call your doctor. Perhaps he/she can help give you some more insight and ease your fears a bit.

Re: Ovarian Cysts
I don't think thay can tell exactly what kind of cyst, until they remove it. Like pp said functioning cysts can go away on there own, or some doctors recommend going on BCP to help shrink the cyst. The cyst that has continously developed on my right ovar does not go away on its own, it grows to fill my entire ovary, but has not grown since. I also develop cysts on my left ovary, but those always go away with AF.
I was scared of damaging my ovary as well, but trusting your doctor is key. Ask how many times they have done the procedure, has there ever been any damage, what are other risks, etc. kind of like an interview. It may sound silly, but a good doc would take the questions seriously and answer all of them. I have had 2 laparoscopies and thankfully no damage was done. Good luck, I hope they go away on there own.

Re: Ovarian Cysts
It happened to me. I had a 6cm functional cyst on my left ovary last summer. What happened was, my body produces the hormone to grow an egg, but not enough of the hormone to release it. So I don't regularly ovulate (but I do get smileys on OPKs pretty much every time I test). Last summer, the egg just sat there and grew and grew. I went to an RE to find out why my cycles are 50-80 days long, and they found it on a sono. They told me NOT to get pregnant and put me on BCP that day. Ironic, right? I go to a fertility specialist and she puts me on the Pill right away.
Good news was - the cyst shrank to nothing in less than 2 months. I then got my BFP two cycles after that, in December, with the help of Clomid (to force ovulation) and an IUI. My due date is in 5 days!
It was a hard couple of months, having to put off ttc, but I had to trust my RE. And hey, I'm glad now that I put myself in her hands!
