I don't find it that outrageous. It was actually a question on the kindergarten registration for my district as well.

No big deal to me if they want to know.

It doesn't bother to tell someone that my kids are both C-section babies BUT I'm not sure why anyone, especially, the school NEEDS to know that info. I'd likely answer the question but it just seems like a silly question to me.

My child's not in kindergarten yet. Is this a normal for them to ask that much about the birth? It seems kind of weird to me. If there's trauma or they're premature and had a lot of issues in the beginning, then I can see possibly a developmental issue. But just because they were born vaginally or through c-section I really don't think is an indication of anything, so that baffles me.

I think if it were me, I'd probably just answer it and then ask for their reasoning because it seems strange. I probably wouldn't have refused though. Just would have been like

I don't care much about how my ds was delivered and would probably answer the question no problem. I just don't see things like that a big deal

This is not a big deal at all, it's for developmental history. They take all info and write psychosocial histories as needed. If you refuse that's fine, when I write up the summary i would write 'patents refuse birth history in record ' or something. I don't work for school district but for non profit. Not sure if it's mandatory for sd.

I really don't think of it as a tremendously private question. I really doubt any teacher would make judgements on a child based on that info. If they did I would think they were an idiot which would bother me so I guess there's no good that can come of the question imo. The other birth history questions I can understand but vaginal or cs is useless info to a teacher.

I don't understand why they care, but I would answer it. I have 2 vaginal babies & 2 c section babies and I really don't care who knows lol.

DS was in EI and then at 3 was in the self contained classes in the local preschool. One of the questions I remember filling out was the same thing. DS1 wound up being a crash c bc he lost oxygen when I went into labor and had to get him out ASAP.
Because of that I do see why they ask that question for school. It's personal for me though. I have no problem answering it and understand why they do. He's in general Ed now with an IEP. I don't know 100 percent if the way he was born was the cause of his delays but I do know that one other mom who had a similar birth also had a child with sensory issues. DS has outgrown a lot.

I know I have been asked at how many weeks they were born to know if premature and any possible issues there, I may have been asked what type of delivery when I switched pediatricians but that's it I would refuse the question

I don't even tell anyone outside my immediate immediate family that they were IVF. I wouldn't want some silly nothing of an issue to come up, only to have someone to go digging into the file and say "aha!" It's just irrelevant to me...

Yeah, it was on my K application as well in our district. After I filled it all out, I considered whiting it all out & leaving it blank but I left our info on there.

It's part of any routine psychosocial evaluation. I used to have to ask those questions at intake at a previous job. Not sure why, but it's a pretty routine question.

The info is all over a kid's records. Sometimes it leads to further injury and helps an evaluation and sometimes it's irrelevant. Why be embarrassed about the way your child was born?

This is just another way to blame the mother for any issues the child might have. Sorry, I will NOT be answering any such question as the birth of my son is upsetting enough as it is... Never even was a thought in my mind that something developmental could end up being wrong with him as a result until I read this thread. My brother was born in an even more traumatic way at just about the same gestational age and had no issues.... I don't think anyone ever asked my mom except the pediatricians and it's none of anyone's business. Maybe I will feel differently in a few years, but almost 8 months later this is how I feel.

I don't see that big of a deal. I have had 1 csection and 1 vaginal delivery. It is just part of their history. It is how they entered this world and if the school wants to know for whatever reason - sure no problem.

Is there actual research that shows that babies born via C section are more likely to have delays?
I can't imagine that to be true.
I can see if there was some traumatic incident during birth that lead to the C section, but what if it was just a repeat C section that you scheduled with your second or third?

I really don't see how it's any different than a V birth in that case.

I guess I don't see WHY the school would need to know that. Not that it's a big deal or anything to be ashamed of, but I just don't see the PURPOSE.
It's like asking- how long did it take you to conceive your child? What position were you in when you conceived them?

I always thought it was part of a larger scale epidemiological study or something so I thought nothing of answering. I never thought it was to personally assess my child.
