Outdoor renovation HELP PLEASE!!
We wanted to do some outdoor renovations with our tax return. We can not do both the front and back so we are not sure which one to do. Our front and back look like $h1t!
-We don't even have a real walkway coming from our stoop in front to the driveway or sidewalk and our stoop is very old and falling apart(but not so bad that you will get hurt walking on it....just ugly) - Fixing it would consist of a paver stoop, paver walkway, blacktop driveway.
-Our backyard is very uneven, 3 huge dead trees and dirt in A LOT of places there should be grass. Fixing it would consist of tree and shrub removal, leveling, sod, gardens....
What would you do? We could remove the trees and do the stoop and walkway in the front, but the back will still be unuseable (except the deck)..... I would really appreciate the feedback. -jenn

I vote the backyard since that is where I would spend the most time. But personally I would do most of the stuff (maybe even all depending on the size of the tree) myself that you listed for the backyard and spend the money in the front.

My initial thought would be to do the front for curb appeal but now that its getting warm I think I would do the yard b/c you'll be able to go back there and enjoy/relax. The driveway can wait

Re: Outdoor renovation HELP PLEASE!!
I could've wrote this myself a month ago. We opted for the front because I can't stand to look at it anymore.
Our backyard is a work in progress. We took down the last of our nuisance trees a couple weeks ago (also did some last year) but we decided to DIY the rest. We are bringing in topsoil to level out the low spots and seeding and working on building the turf. Next year, we'll tackle the other backyard projects.

I am thinking the front because you will need to hire someone to do the cement/paver work for you if you are not so handy-like my DH and I. The backyard can come with time.... you could spruce it up with a little TLC as you go on in the spring.
Let us know what you decide!

I'd go for the front - curb appeal and substantial changes, and if you can swing it, get the dead trees removed form the back. They say curb appeal helps with the value of a house and if anything should ever happen that you need to sell it would help make a good first impression.
Try doing some of the work in your back yard yourself - work on seeding, racking, and let the shrubs and other stuff get added slowly.

I totally agree! Maybe the backyard can be worked on over time since you still have a deck to use. GL making a decision.
