DS isn't quite that big but was always 95% percentile for height and weight.
He was chubby until he started walking.
Now he's a stick.

He's 3 1/2 and 46 inches and 45 lbs. (has been lb/in since 2) so about the size of a 4-5 year old. he's all muscle. that's where his weight comes from. he's strong and super active. he wears 5T pants (for length) but needs the adjustable waist otherwise they fall off.

we had a walker which he destroyed because of his weight. had to stop using the playard at 7 months because he was too heavy. retired the strolled by 18 months because the wheels were buckling.

you learn to deal without it. help him walk by holding his hands. spend lots of time playing on the floor. the high chair will be your new best friend (until he learns that he's strong enough to push the tray off by himself)

he's young but you can definitely start teaching him what's safe to touch and what is off limits. DS never went into the kitchen or touched the stove because he knew early on it was not allowed.

as for the back pain, just lift with your legs! anytime DS wants me to pick him up, I get DH to do it. 46 lbs of squirmy very energetic boy is not good for my back! holding him on my hip seems to be most comfortable.

My son was 30 pounds at 9 months old. The biggest , fattest fatty you ever saw. We took our kids to Disney and if I had a dollar for every person who said "look at the huge baby!!!" I'd be a millionaire. I actually left our first pediatrician partly because the NP couldn't not stop pointing out how huge he was. Umm... Hello...? I CARRY this baby! I'm well aware of how big he is!

Keep giving him lots of toys and things to look at. I bet he will be crawling soon, and it will be nice out and he can go into the baby swings at playgrounds. You don't need to spend any money for fancy toys. Just keep putting interesting things around him

Fast forward 9 years... My son is lean and muscular without an ounce of fat on him. Yours will be too.

We got him involved in sports at 2 years old (started with karate and soccer) kept his diet organic (high in lean protein and fruits and vegetables) and didn't offer juice, candy or fast food until he was well over 2 years old, and in extreme moderation.

Don't worry... He will grow into his size.

I too have an off of the charts DS. My son is 6 and is the height of most 8 or 9 year old kids. If you can, I would get one of those activity exersaucers that can convert height wise. At that age my DS was still super thin, but his height was and still is off of the charts. Eventually, his growth sort of slowed but he still wears clothing that is 2 years above his age for the length.

I had the opposite worry with my DD. She wasn't even 20lbs at 1yo and is almost 3 and not even 30 lbs. However, I was a giant baby. I was born 10 weeks early at 4lb 3 oz (left the hospital at under 4 lbs a month later) and by 1 yo I was over 28lbs. I wasn't fat, just big. My siblings were also both large babies (over 30lbs at 1 yo) and we are all average sized adults now. I think babies just grow at their own pace, but I understand the worrying (from the other end of the spectrum :))

He is adorable! My ds is the opposite. He is average height, but less than 18 pounds at a year. He was born the same size as your ds. Babies are just going to do their thing! I was a super tall, heavy baby. Growing up I always felt insecure about looking older. I guess my only advice would be don't harp too much about it and make him feel proud of his size!

Your son is ADBORABLE - I have a 4 year old who is 49 inches, for his 3 year old visit he was 45 inches and 45 lbs. Only downfall was he figure out his legs could swing over the side of the crib and the gates WAY before my DD did....he hasn't stopped climbing since.

your son is SUPER cute! my DS is also a big boy :) at his 6 month visit he weighed something like 20 pounds (maybe a tad under) and he's now almost 9 months and i'm sure he's put on at least a few pounds. he is impossible to carry for any length of time. we had to retire all of our gadgets like the bouncy, RNP, swing etc because he was simply too big for them. lol. we had an exersaucer for a short amount of time and stopped using it because he gets PT and the therapist wasn't too keen on it. how about just letting him sit and play with fun toys on the floor? also he could play on his tummy which is a good way for him to learn to move around. this is what we do with my DS who is still not crawling. we bought him some great toys that help him developmentally but don't require him to "sit" in anything. as soon as he's up and about we'll get him a push toy. i also had to get him into a convertible car seat b/c i absolutely could not lift the infant one anymore...even to attach it to the stroller. lol.

I feel your pain. I have twins..daughter is 50th% but DS is off off off the charts. We had to go for head US because it was measuring so big. Anyway. He is 14 months now and 35 lbs. very tall. Daughters head is at DS shoulder. He is soooo heavy to carry. He also went over max weight limit on all the baby stuff around 7 months. he wears a 3T now..praying we are slowing down.

I used to put two boppy on top of each other to support him sitting, and put the musical tables in front of him. He also liked sitting in the summer infant safe seat (foam part taken out) with toys on it.

My son, did not roll or sit unassisted for a long time, so it's hard. He finally started crawling 2 weeks ago with help from PT. Now he is cruising everywhere

It's just a short time that you will be in this mess, I looked at all those extra weight jumpers too, but decided against them, but maybe they will work out great for you.
