Otto Warmbier has died
Anybody following? This was the student who was jailed in North Korea for stealing a propaganda banner. He was jailed for 15 years of hard labor but was released last week. It was revealed last week he had been in a coma almost the entire year he'd been away so far. He died today.
I know the truth will never come out what happened to him.

I had no idea he was in a coma. So he was released in a coma? To who?
He was released to the us last week. In the negotiation talks the North Koreans revealed he had been in a coma for over the last year. They said he developed botulism and was given a sleeping pill and fell into a coma.
When he was examined here the drs basically said he was brain dead and showed no signs of botulism. The whole thing is shady and horrifying.
Even if he was in a coma for a legit reason the North Korean govt never told his parents or anyone in the us. Essentially denying him better healthcare

dr on the news said he was in a vegetative state when he came home. they fuked him up, and because of where he was we will never know. shame, could have been avoided only if....

This story is so incredibly disturbing. North Korea used this kid as a political pawn against the US. What was this kid doing in North Korea in the first place? And what made him steal that banner, besides being young and stupid and thinking he'd get away with it? Did he not know people get jailed in NK for less? What an awful story. And to think how many people this happens in NK prisons and labor camps and the media is only reporting on this particular case because he's American. Scary. For the love of all that's holy stay out of these countries and if you absolutely have to go, make sure your eyes are always pointing forward. Young people who believe they're invincible especially should stay the hell away from these places. There's not a whole lot the US can do to protect you. Makes me think of the kid that got caned in Singapore and the Australian woman who did time in Indonesian prison.

Yes what he did was stupid. Yes I would never go to north Korea. But he absolutely did not deserve to die.
He took a poster with Kim jongs picture on it off the wall and placed it on the ground. He didn't steal it. Messing with anybthing with Kim jongs image in it is a serious crime in NK.
He was used against the US govt as retribution when the US issued sanctions against their nuclear program.
Gd only knows what they did to him to cause this. In a country where the leader literally fed his alive uncle to the dogs to be killed.

They consider any of those Kim leaders Gods of some sort in NK. The punishment never fits the crime, and they always use terror and fear to manipulate their people. Also, they are brainwashed into hating the US and all of its citizens.
How do we know Otto really ripped the poster off the wall? Are there pictures? Video? For all we know, they could have made this up out of their baseless hatred for anything or anyone American.
They're claiming it was "botulism". I cannot wait for the autopsy to prove this wrong. May he RIP

I really don't think he stole the poster. The surveillance tape is super blurry, he was detained much later at the airport trying to leave, and he made some outlandish statements during his trial in North Korea, and I think it was obviously coerced. Read about his arrest and convinction here.

He was old enough to know better.
Stupid for thinking that he could travel safely to N. Korea despite government warnings against travel to N. Korea that have been in place for decades.
The punishment was extremely harsh and did not fit the crime.
But that is one sick M-F running that country.
May his parents find peace that he died on US soil and not while in captivity.

Seriously... it's effing North Korea- do I really believe he stole it? No. Yes, he confessed to it, but the way he broke down while confessing, I'm sure they were already doing SOMETHING to him. And then to sentence him to 15 years hard labor for it? This is all sorts of insane. Botulism my ass, they did this to him. I can't imagine how horrific this must be for his family.
