Re: Organic Food
I actually bought organic chicken and thought it tasted grainy. Not the consistency, but the taste...Kind of a wheaty aftertaste.

You sould really read up about organic veggies -- some of them aren't worth the extra $$ unless you're doing it mainly b/c you're opposed to the spraying of chemicals. (E.g., bananas - not worth buying organic b/c the spray only gets on the tough outer skin, which you don't eat. It doesn't penetrate it. Apples - worth buying organic because you normally eat the skin / skin is penetrable)
Somewhere I may still have a good list of what's worth buying organic and what isn't. I'll take a look and post it if I find it.

Re: Organic Food
what are your reasons for wanting to eat organically? I buy mostly all natural or organic meat, I find it tastes better, looks & smells more fresh from the day I buy it. My reasoning for it is I don't want to eat meat filled with antibiotics & steriods/hormones & I prefer more humane treatment of animals raised for consumption.
Now when it comes to produce, I try to buy local organic stuff. IMO buying fruits & veggies that are in season & grown locally is more important than organic usually. For example banannas, they have to be shipped here from south america all year-the carbon footprint for one bushel of banannas is huge. So we try to eat exotic fruits in moderation. Berries that are grown here on LI & are in season now (especially organic)would be my first choice.
It's important to decide WHY you want to make a change, then decide how you'll do it. Just the word "organic" alone doesn't do it for me.

Re: Organic Food
When I am home, I try to eat only organic meat, eggs, milk and veggies.
I find no difference really, but if any, a bit better, fresher tasting and I mentally feel better eating it. Which helps.

Re: Organic Food
I think some of the fruit, like apples for instance, taste better. (no wax on organic apples, so you can actually taste the apple....)
The meats I also find taste a bit better.

Re: Organic Food
If you ever eat organic chicken, you will not be able to go back to NON organic. Even when you cook it you will see and smell the difference.
Same goes for dairy. It is a world of difference.
Also, organic veggies and fruit acrually taste likes they should, not like a piece of cardboard that looks like a fruit.

Because its ultrapasteurized, heated at a higher temp than reg pasteurization, for a shorter time, then quickly chilled.
But once open, either will only last about a week.
