OPKs for bloodtest - HELP!

I miscarried a pregnancy in December at 9 weeks. Genetic testing came back normal.

I saw a specialist who recommended a mid cycle progesterone test as well as antibody testing. They are trying to see if there are any issues that may have caused me to miscarry in the hopes of preventing another miscarriage. I am doing the testing through my OB.

My first cycle post d&c was 30 days. My second cycle started yesterday and that was 25 days.

They told me to get an ovulation predictor kit and start testing at day 8 since I may have short cycles. I have to get the progesterone blood test 7 days after I confirm ovulation. So that is why I need to use the OPK.

Can someone explain the OPK thing to me. What brand is the easiest to use? When do I test? How does it work?

After this cycle we have the green light to try again so I really want to get the progesterone testing done this cycle.

Thanks so much!

Clear Blue Digitals are the easiest to use... no room for interpretation... you either get a Chat Icon or you get a blank circle...

I like Clear Blue - the digital one. It shows you a smiley face when it detects your LH surge. So no guess work with the lines thing.

After just testing once in the morning, I would highly recommed testing twice.. once in the AM and once in the afternoon just to make sure you don't miss out on the surge.

After you detect the surge, BD like crazy for the next 12-36 hours and the then two additonal days just in case Miss Egg decides to take a little more time to get ready.

Thanks Ang. I figured out when to get the test done Chat Icon I spoke to them earlier and they said to do the OPK thing and then get blood drawn 7 days after I O.

I see people talk about the lines, the smiley and it seems like a lot of people have trouble using them.

I feel my ovulation but it lasts for 3-4 days and I'm not sure if I O the first day I feel the pains or if I O when the pains subside and the egg is released. If the OPK works I'll know what is going on with the pains which I guess is a good thing.

I agree with the Clear Blue Easy Digitals. If you're not sure how long your cycles are, I'd get the larger pack. I went with the 20-pack for that reason. I'm very glad I did, the closest size down I could find was a 7-pack, and I got my Chat Icon on the 8th day testing. It easy, just like doing a pregnancy test. Good Luck!

I got the cheapie testers from amazon, something like 3 bucks for 20 or 25. Same thing with the POAS, I think they were 5 bucks. I'd rather get the cheapie ones for now and the more expenisve to confirm, if that makes sense. HTH!
