I have a 26 day cycle and don't start til day 10. That's b/c I've never gotten a smiley before day 14. The first month I started on day 8 I think, just in case.

My cycle was about 30 days. i started testing CD12 and got +OPKs CD 16-18 (it varied month to month, not that I got positive results every day)

i started testing CD 8 b/c it was my first month TTC after my loss, and i wanted to make sure i was ovulating the same time i usually do.
