OPK question (sorry)

So how many days technically do you have after getting a smily to BD? I know it registers the peak of hormone signifying that you will ovulate but is there a time frame? One day? Two? Reason I ask is the last two months I had ovulation pain on my side and quickly took an OPK and it was positive. So does that mean I ovulated that moment when I felt the pain? Sorry this post is so exhausting LOL

Re: OPK question (sorry)

Yes. I felt the same thing on cd 8 for me this month. Like a twinge of pain in my abs. We actually bd that morning, then that night and the day after just to cover our tracks. I never paid attention to that pain until early this year which prob how I was missing my peak time. Now that I know some women may ov early, we just start bd on cd 8 regardless what the kit says. If you get the happy face and or the pain on your side you could bd soon after.

Re: OPK question (sorry)

Yea, I have noticed that I O around day 9. Well..... that's what my OPK starts the smiley. So does that mean that I am prob Oing day 11 or 12? I'm finding it hard calculating how many DPO because of this. I asked my DR and he just laughed and said to just BD and stop worrying Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: OPK question (sorry)

well on the opk instructions it basically says that you ovulate for 12-36hrs after you get the smiley..... so im assuming any time after you get the smiley is fair game lol.... i got a smiley and bd the same day for dd#2 and we bd just that day when i got the smiley and i got a bfp.... this time around i dont know yet but i bd on cd 11 when i got a negative opk and then we bd on cd 13 when i got a smiley .....we bd about 12hrs after getting my smiley in the morning same day so we'll see didnt bd after but i think its suggested to cover your bases

Re: OPK question (sorry)

Thank you! I apparently never read directions on anything lol. So when a woman gets O pain, can she ovulate in the next few days or is that the day she usually O's? I always get a smiley the exact day I feel this pain.

me too! o pain and the smiley always go together for me......and as for when a woman actually o's, i really think it all depends on the woman but i know its a short window 36hrs is the max so i think thats why you should definitely bd on the day you get the smiley and if possible the day after just in case but like i said i did only bd for my dd#2 on the day i got the smiley and i got a bfp.....and this time i bd on cd13 when i got the smiley but when i got up in the morning i checked it again with the opk and it was negative so i wasnt too upset that we couldnt bd the day after the smiley since it was negative anyway

Re: OPK question (sorry)

Okay, I just saw my OB/GYN and he explained everything to me.. lol
Apparently the pain that we feel when we ovulate is the egg cyst stretching the ovary and about to exit the ovary. So the pain just means we are about to ovulate in the next 12-24 hours. That means our OPK's are on point! Chat Icon

OPK question (sorry)

I would suggest starting your OPK on D10 with first day of AF being CD1...Take your OPK daily from CD10 between 11am-2pm on your 2nd urine of the day.

If you get a smily face that will indicate you are "going to ovulate WITHIN the next 12-36 hours" so BD that night and the following 3 nights after that...

If you really want to pin point your LH surge then take an OPK at 11am and 11pm from D10 forward as soon as you get the :) then start having sex ONCE A DAY NO MORE THEN ONCE A DAY.

I've been doing infertility since 2007 and have tried to concieve for over 5 years. I have a son (2) and one on the way in January. I have been through 64 months of TTC which resulted in BFNs. 11 IUI's and 3 IVF cycles...

this is based on my experience and what works from a scientific standpoint. Unfortunately, my timing was always great but we found out recently our IF is due to MIF so no matter how good the timing it wouldnt matter we needed to do IVF./ICSI to concieve. :)

Good Luck!!!! TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!!! Relax and enjoy TTC as much as you can!
