OPK Question
Hi everyone. Is it possible to miss the surge with an OPK? I am on day 13 of my normally 27 day cycle and have been POS every morning and haven't gotten the positive! Do you think it is too late to ovulate at this point being that my cycle is only 27 days? TIA!

Re: OPK Question
They say the best time to test for ovulation is between 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm, unless you are using the CBE Fertlity Monitor, which tells you to use FMU.

Re: OPK Question
I am sorry to tell you this but you have not been using the OPK correctly. The OPK detects LH in urine in the afternoon, not the morning. You need to test sometime around 2PM with a 4 hour urine hold.

Correct...HPTs you use in the morning, OPKs in the afternoon..

Re: OPK Question
This is from peeonastick.com (there is quite alot of useful information there)
10. Should I use first morning urine (FMU) with OPK's? No. LH is synthesized early in the day, and is not metabolized into your urine until later. So, as a rule, you are more likely to catch your surge later in the day. ("They" say you should test sometime around 2-4 p.m., but I've had fine luck at 10 p.m.-midnight.) Using FMU may not be a problem for you, but if you do not detect a surge during the cycle you use FMU, try testing later during the next cycle.
Note: the Clearblue Fertility Monitor is the exception. The FM Monitor does require FMU.

Thank you for posting this!
Do you think there is still a chance that I didn't miss it at day 13?

Re: OPK Question
like the pp said, you should be using afternoon urine for the OPK.
but having said that, it is definitely possible to miss the surge if it is short or if you are using a less sensitive OPK. if you search posts by me in oct/nov/dec 2006, i did some tests using different OPKs just for fun, and i found that not all OPKs are created equal!
if you BD every other day from the end of AF to the next AF, you won't miss your fertile period no matter what the OPK says...
ETA: if this is day 13 of a 27 day cycle for you, it is definitely not too late! start BDing right away, forget the OPKs!!!!!
