OPK as HPT
Is it safe to assume that if you get a negative OPK reading after your surge and whatnot that you are probably not pregnant?
The reason I ask is bc I thought I heard of people being able to use OPKs as pregnancy test, something to do with the hormones...

no, its not safe to assume that. OPKs do detect HCG because they are chemically very similar, but the level of hormone is unclear so if you are testing early then an OPK may not pick it up.

LH and HCG are similar so an OPK will pick up HCG where as a HPT will not pick up LH, only the HCG hormone. This link is helpful: http://www.peeonastick.com/opkhpt.html
I used an OPK this morning because I didn't have any HPT's left and I'm nervous until I get my 2nd beta, and sure enough I got a dark positive on the OPK. I wouldn't rely on it though as an HPT just in case.
