+ OPK 3 weeks ago, BFN
Please help me make sense of this:
My cycles were always few and far between - every 45-75 days. When I was in high school/college, that was great. I would go entire summers period-free sometimes.
Then I went on the Pill and of course got my period every 28 days. Went off the Pill in February and am trying to learn about my body. My first cycle was 49 days. Well, on CD 26 of this cycle I had EWCM and got a + OPK. It's now CD 48. Tested today and got a BFN, plus I have no symptoms.
So... what was the + OPK all about? Can you get one, and have EWCM (we're talking 3 or 4 inches of "pull" before it snapped), and not ovulate? If so, what will finally "trigger" my period?

It is definitely possible to have EWCM and get a positive OPK and still not O. OPK's test for lutenizing hormone which is present BEFORE ovulation, usually 12-36 hours before. The only way to confirm O is to temp, besides blood work and sonos from a doc.
It is still possible the you haven't regulated completey since coming off the pill. It takes longer for some than others.
Good luck!

Thank you!
It's just so frustrating - all my life I've thought it was a blessing to get so few AF's a year, and now it's really annoying.

A + OPK means that there is a rise in LH and you should O within the next 12-36 hours. However, your body can "gear up" to O and then not actual O. Some people get multiple + OPK throughout their cycle. The way for you to confirm ovulation is to temp every morning and you will see a sustained increase in your temperature of about .5 degrees or more after ovulation. So it is possible that your body was gear up to ovulate and then for whatever reason, you didn't O. The thing is that you won't really be able to know where you are in this cycle if you did in fact O later.
Hope that helps I hope it ends in a BFP for you.

i have PCOS and high LH. i get like tons of +OPKs that dont result in ovulation. for days in a row.
if you want to know if you are ovulating you need to temp in addition to OPKs. its the only way to confirm that O did occur.
good luck

I bought a basal thermometer today and am ready to start next cycle! I'm excited for it to get here already.
I actually used the OPKs twice more after I got the and they were both negative (one the next day, one 5 days later just out of curiosity). So I was hopeful that I really did O on day 26. I guess not.
Thanks for all the info - you guys know so much!

If I were you I would try temping. In the beginning its a little shaky but once you see your temps on a graph it is incrediable how CLEAR your cycle appears. Try Fertilityfriend.com theres alot of literature on there you can learn about temping. You will know when you O after a few cycles....and with use of OPK..
Remember that you get a positive OPK that means you will O within 12-36 hours of that Positive OPK.
