Re: opk 101
I used to pee in a dixy cup and then drop the test into the cup to the max line for the time recommended on the package. Then lay it flat and wait five minutes. When the test and control line are the same shade you have your optimal time.
Use them the same time everyday with FMU or after waiting 4-5 hours without using the bathroom.

Re: opk 101
If you have a normal 28-30 day cycle, I would start every other day starting tomorrow and then once you get a positive (the test line must be the same color or darker than the control for it to be a positive) that day, and for the next 2 days.

Ok so I took one this morning cd10 and I got a negative because I had a faint line...Does having a faint line over no line mean I am getting closer??? How many times a day do I check??

Re: opk 101
I experimented with cheapy OPKs this cycle for practice and had many of the same questions you have so I will share my experience in hopes that it helps you.
I have irregular cycles but started testing at cd12 or 13 - whatever day the OPKs came in the mail. I got a light-but-not-that-light test line. I tested once a day at varying times, but didnt know you are supposed to hold your pee. I had the same light-medium line every day. It started getting darker for me around cd17 and I thought it was almost positive but the test line was still a little lighter. I tested again that night to confirm the positive and it was very light, barely there, so I assumed I had already surged. But, it turns out I just had too much to drink which diluted my pee and skewed the test results. I tested every few days after that just to see what the OPKs would look like and it was negative at cd22, but then very surprisingly positive on cd24! I posted that pic on here somewhere -- the two lines were equally dark, which was not the case for what I thought was a positive on cd17. I tested again late at night on cd25 and it was definitely positive. the test line was darker than the control line, even darker than the day before. So, I think my early results were skewed a little by drinking too much and not waiting long enough to pee. I am assuming that I O'd somewhere around cd26/27. Once AF comes I will confirm.
So, from my experience I always had a second line, and it was always light-medium even a week+ before O. It only got really really light if I drank a lot of water and didnt wait long enough before testing. I was able to see the line getting darker before I had a full on positive, and the positive was VERY obvious. At least, assuming I read these correctly...
good luck!

No. Probably not. Typically you will have a faint line throughout your cycle. It gets darker as you get closer to O. I have never had an experience where I had no test line.
The first month you use OPK you might want to test twice a day to be sure you catch your surge, but only test twice a day as you notice the test line becoming darker. If it stays dark for two days or so (average +OPK) then subsequent cycles only once a day should be sufficient.

If you have a positive for more than one day, when do you typically consider O?

You consider O day the last day of +OPK. So, if you get a +OPK 2 days in a row and then the third you get a negative the second + would be O day and the - after would be 1DPO. If you temp it could also be seen as a dip in your temperature before your progesterone causes your temp to rise.
ETA: sometimes you will get a + in the am and a - in the pm. That would mean that was your O day and the - in the pm would tell you that you Oed. Again this is just a general rule. The best way to be sure you have definitely O'ed is to temp and track that against your OPK tests to confirm.
