Opinions on this type of shower?
I hate baby showers. If it wasn't a necessity and my mother insisting, I wouldn't even have one. To make matters worse, mine will be sometime in the summer.
I really don't want my mother screwing up anyone's fun plans with my shower so I was thinking of telling her to throw a Friday evening happy hour shower at her house. She has a beautiful backyard and I just think it would be less painful if the guests could tie one on with some pina coladas and mojitos while they ooh and aah over my new diaper genie.
Thoughts? (Meaning on the shower idea -not my crappy attitude towards showers )

Love it, my friend had her wedding shower like this and it was so much fun. I would love a party like this for a baby shower! I say go for it :)

I think it sounds like a great idea. I am with you, I hate showers on the weekends in the summer time. It is an inconvience for some people, especially those that have a beach house that they go to only on the weekends.
Part of me is really happy that my shower is in April, because if it was later I would probably do something similar to what you mention.

sorry but I wouldnt want to go to a shower on a Friday night.. Honestly I dont want to do anything after work - especially go to a party like a shower. I always feel like I have to rush home, I'm tired from working all day/week and then we would be getting home late... IMO a saturday 3 hour afternoon shower is much less painful. I'm not rushing and I can still be home by 4 if I wanted to do somethig else.

I have to agree. A night shower seems a bit more inconvenient than a day shower (especially a Friday after work). As for the happy hour theme - don't worry about the ladies and their cocktails - they'll be enjoying those whether it brunch, lunch or dinner! lol! How about a Sat/Sun bbq? Casual, etc. Or maybe a Jack and Jill shower so it doesn't seem so traditional and is more of a party atmosphere? I've been to those and they are fun. Drinking games with baby bottles...

I think that sounds like a ton of fun, and a lot more comfortable than the average shower! Just a heads up though: If your mom likes "traditional" showers as much as my mom does, expect a horrified reaction if you suggest it.

I just had that kind of shower 2 weeks ago. I'm in FL and we had it at our friends house, which is beautiful and has a great backyard. It was co-ed, we had lots of good food, apps, a huge sushi boat, liquor, punch, and the margarita machine crankin'. we had a nice dessert display that came out around 8. It started at 4 and went till 11, we had a blast. I'm really not into showers either, and i had alot of say in planning it which was nice. We didn't do any of the typical games either.
ETA: it was a saturday afternoon

I have to agree. I think the concept of the shower is great but I would prefer to go to something like this on a Saturday or Sunday Early Afternoon.

Sounds like a great idea! Id go to a shower like that.
I mean as far as going to an after work shower, keep in mind that a lot of people either take off, have half days, or are just off on Fridays in the summer too!

I LOVE this idea, I have the same feelings about showers as you! I really wanted to do something along these lines for mine but sadly it just didn't pan out. I had my heart set on a Jack and Jill with a laid back happy hour feel at someone's house but it's not happening. I think your idea is awesome and I think the guests will really appreciate it. If people have a problem with Friday night, you could always do a Sat evening and make it Jack and Jill.

Oh yes! I'm preparing myself for the avalanche of fury with the suggestion. LOL I'm sure she's dreaming of giant baby safety pins and pastel colors and I'm thinking let's break out the tiki torches and do the pregnant lady hula!
My thoughts were that most people have plans on the weekends in the summer (or they don't and just want to hit the beach) and I didn't want to monopolize one whole, precious summer weekend day with this.
