Open House on one I really like
There is an Open House this weekend for a house I really like!
Do I go or not go?
I want to go, because I would love to see it. But, on the other hand, I don't want to go because I think I will fall in love with it and be upset! First of all, it's a bit out of my price range. Secondly, my house is still on the market and I couldn't even make an offer unless ours is sold.
What to do?

Re: Open House on one I really like
I would go! My husband and I went to literally dozens of Open Houses even though we were in no position to buy. That's how we found the house we just went into contract on. We thought it was going to get snatched immediatley, but lucky for us it was not the case. Four months later, the house was still on the market and we were ready to make an offer at that point.
Even if the asking price of the house is out of your range it's just that-an ASKING price. Just try not to get too emotionally invested and take a lighthearted look. Have fun!

Re: Open House on one I really like
I think you should go! I get a lot of people that come through my open houses that make clear that they aren't in a position to buy until their home sells, but they are educating themselves on what's available.
If you do find a house you love, it may still be available when you are ready and able to make an offer. If not, at the very least, you are narrowing down what you are looking for and will be able to move faster to find your next home once you are under contract on your current home. At that point, the clock will be ticking and you don't want to start from square one at that point!
It's true you could just look online, but it's hard to really judge a home from an online listing, imo. There's no substitute for seeing it in person, and checking out open houses is an easy way to do it at this point.

Re: Open House on one I really like
go! We saw our house in March of last year. Needed to sell ours first. Went to contract on ours in Sept and the house I loved was still available. We went to contract on it in oct and are now living here! In this market anything can happen.
