one year old who cries when she doesnt get her way
what should i do with my one year old who cries whenever she doesn't get her way?
should i ignore and let her cry it out, distract, do a 1 min timeout in a playpen?
also, yesterday she kept throwing her lovey/blankey on the floor while sitting in her stroller and after she'd throw it on the floor she'd cry so i'd pick it up and give it back to her for her to only do it again. is this normal behavior? how do i address this?

It's normal. Welcome to toddlerhood. I try distract and redirecting first. Now my girls will yell and cry if they want something and I don't get it quick enough or they can't have it. I ignore them. They will learn eventually.

Throwing the toy on the ground is totally normal! It's a way for them to learn cause and effect. They're not trying to be annoying! And crying over not getting their own way again is soooo normal, they all do it. Redirection and distraction helps a lot. But sometimes it won't and they'll have meltdowns and again totally normal. It's a phase and it will pass.

my son is 11 months and just started the throwing thing too. he throws everything on the floor. i know he's just trying to learn but it gets a little old after he does it all day LOL. we were in target and he threw everything i handed him over the edge of the cart! he also cries when he doesn't get his way and i try to just redirect and distract. my friends all tell me this is just the beginning.....;)

Right now it's all about distraction. I think they will get behavior modification attempts (crying it out, timeouts, etc.) around 18-24 months..

this. The throwing things on the floor and watching you pick it up is actually a GOOD THING! It's considered a milestone. They are learning cause and effect. Don't discourage it too much - I know it gets annoying.
Also at 1 years old crying over not getting their way is so normal - they just don't "get it" yet, which is also why you shouldn't give a time out that young. They aren't going to understand why. And also remember that at this point she is starting to realize what she wants and can't totally communicate it to you so that crying is just frustration.

Re: one year old who cries when she doesnt get her way
My 1 year old bit my leg yesterday and I yelled OUCH! No No!! She looked at me smiled and then stuck her tongue out and did a rasberry! I looked at my husband and said WTH!! She was being fresh! How do they know at 1 to do these things!! She also always screams whenever she sees food or wants more..I try to ignore the screaming and try to make her sign in sign language More instead this way she is communicating without screaming
