One more post- Those who's DC skipped crawling

Did your DC skip crawling? DS doesn't seem interested in crawling - he just wants to walk and he can do it with us holding him (he's only 7 months). My mom said its important for him to crawl, but obviously if he's going to skip it, then he's going to skip it.

My DS is 7.5 months old now and he loves to climb and walk holding on to things. He does crawl, but only the army crawl. But he only does that to get to something he is looking at to climb LOL. It's totally fine... some babies just skip it.. there's nothing wrong with it. My mom thinks being so young and spending so much time on his legs is bad...but he just prefers it.

My DS is crawling but before that, he got around by army crawling and lunging himself to a toy. Now he's pulling himself up and cruising all over the place. His new thing today is practicing getting down. Up and down up and down. At least he's in one place finally!

Dont worry though, crawling isnt a milestone, he will figure out a way to get around...they all do!

My DD skipped crawling and went right to walking at almost 10 months. It's no big deal and I say, count your lucky stars!

my DD didn't really crawl. She did this kind of crawl where she dragged one leg! She was walking at about 10 1/2 months. She actually didn't master crawling until she was around 13/14 months old. But I guess at that point she didn't need to worry about it.

Crawling can start as late as 9/10 months, so you can not be sure that DC is skipping just yet. It is important to crawl for the upper body strength (particularly in quadro-ped), however it isn't considered a mandatory milestone on most scales (all of this infor according to PT's I work with). DS has been doing the army crawl for months (he 10 months now) and has started doing more hands-knees crawling (quadro-ped) since he's been in pants more, but isn't doing it consistantly. He is already pulling up to stand now, but it's important to develop that upper body strength too. Try "showing" DC how to crawl by putting him into position. That helped a lot with DS.

I don't think I have any memory of my DD crawling. She liked to sit up and bounce on her butt.

When she was about 8 months we bought one of those "baby jails" and before long she was pulling herself up and cruising around that. Then she walked at 10 months.

I skipped crawling, I was walking around 9-10 months. I'm a great walker now

DS is only 6m, but seems to be going this route. He's not interested in tummy time, never was, or rolling over, any which way, and when I do put him on his tummy, he fights to sit up, because if he sits up he already knows how to pull himself to stand at 6m from sitting. But he doesn't know hot to get from laying to sitting, although I think he's trying at times.

I too was warned that babies need to crawl first, that they need to learn coordination, etc etc, and there is some theory about babies who don't crawl developing ADD and Dyslexia. For the most part, there is no consensus among medical professionals that babies absolutely need to crawl, just a lot of theories why people think they need to.
