on to IVF

I have done 3 cycles of clomid with IUI.- Didn't work

I have done 2 cycles of injections with IUI- Didn't work

Now on to IVF. I am starting with BCP then starting Lupron. I am very nervous. I went for a information session on IVF and it seems like alot of information.

I am 27 and have unexplained fertility issues.

Please fill me in with anything you think I should know.

Thank You. Chat Icon

Re: on to IVF

Please feel free to FM me if you have any questions and I'll try my best to answer.

We're also young with unexplained IF.

Know that it's a very difficult emotional journey... I found the emotional difficulty outweighed the physical aspects BY FAR.

Know that unfortunately, it doesn't always works the first time around. I thought with our age and diagnosis that we'd get PG the first time... I was convinced that we WERE pregnant after the transfer - and we weren't... and I was crushed.

Don't fear the retrieval. It'll be the best nap you ever had Chat Icon and you'll wake up in recovery and get to hear about how many eggs they got.

Don't try to plan out the exact dates for everything.. because they might change - many times.

Try to rest after your transfer for 48 hours. Even though there may be no scientific proof behind it, you'll regret NOT doing it if you don't and end up with a BFN.

Don't fear the transfer either. It's like an IUI just kicked up a notch.

That's all I can think of for now!

Re: on to IVF

I did 5 rounds of IUI before moving to IVF and was so glad I did. I now it seems a bit overwhelming at first but you will be fine. I got PG my first IVF and also had unexplained IF. Best of luck!

Re: on to IVF

I also did 5 rounds of IUI before IVF - 2 natural cycles and 3 injectable cycles. I have a 3 year old DD whom I conceived first month trying, so it really came as a shock to us when we couldn't get pregnant in the 2 years we were trying for #2. I'm 33 and I too never got an official diagnosis, other than unexplained infertility. Fortunately for us, we got PG on our first try of IVF.

It is difficult, but having gone through injectable IUI cycles, it's not quite as hard because you already know much of what's involved. The only difference now is there are a few more injections, more doctor appointments and retrieval. Transfer is JUST like the IUI, painless and quick. Retrieval really isn't so bad either because they knock you out.

Re: on to IVF

I am actually in a similar place... I just had my IVF consult and after my next AF they are going to start the injections for IVF...

I went through 5 IUI's - 2 unmedicated and 3 medicated with Clomid. After all 5 failed they decided to move me on to IVF... I seem to have unexplained IF and we are also dealing with MF.

They told me as soon as AF comes i have to go for a water sono, CD2/3 blood work and then they will start me on Lupron.

I guess we will be going through this journey around the same time. I have no idea what to expect either...

Re: on to IVF

I know it seems pretty overwhelming but just take it one step at a time. Honestly, it really isn't that bad at all. I did it three times before we were successful but it was worth everything we went through. Each time got easier because you begin to know what to expect. So that's why you are feeling overwhelmed.

My best advice to you is to not think about it too much and not to think about more than you need to.

Literally - take one day at a time.

All the best,
Patricia
