On bedrest and Indomethacin
Went to the doc today... I'm 28 weeks 4 days. Apparently I've been overdoing it, even though I thought I was taking it easy. My cervix length shortened over the past two weeks from 3.4 to 2.8.
I kind of feel like because I didn't rest enough, I failed my baby. And my dh. He kept telling me to lay down more and I just kept trying to get stuff done. I did less, but not as little as I could have. Now I'm on bedrest at least til Friday and on medicine until I see the doc Friday.
Does anyone have any experience with this issue or some good results from the rest/Indomethacin combo? Any words of encouragement? TIA...

Re: On bedrest and Indomethacin
I'm in the same boat as you so I know how you feel. Mine is way shorter than that as of today but I'm not on meds. I'm going to see a high risk MD on Thursday though. What is that medication they put you on?
I thought that after 28 weeks, they aren't really concerned with the shortened cervix anymore? That's whay my OB and the high risk MD told me. Unless they meant 28 weeks, 7 days or whatever? Did your OB say anything about that?

Re: On bedrest and Indomethacin
My doc put me on Indomethacin at 17 weeks because we thought I was having contractions. I don't think I've heard of it being used for a short cervix, but I didn't research it a ton. Try not to worry or be ahrd on yourself. The good news is 2.8 isn't a huge cause of alarm. My OB likes to see the cervix above 3, but my high risk doctor said they really only worry if you get down to 2. I have heard of girls who have actually seen their cervix lengthen with rest. Just keep the pressure off of your cervix. Good luck!

Re: On bedrest and Indomethacin
I had a cerclage at 17 weeks (stitches in the cervix to keep it closed ... I don't think they do those after 20/22 weeks.
After the procedure, they gave me indomethicin to help keep me from contracting.
I hope your bed rest goes quickly, I know how hard it must be - I've been on modified activity for a few weeks now.
You did NOT fail your baby or your DH!

It's all pretty much the same thing. Apparently, a short cervix can be caused by
a) pre-term labor or b) cervical incompetence
I'm on Indomethacin for 3 days, with bedrest, and then I see the doc again Friday. If they see an improvement (I hope to God), they'll know the reason for the shorter cervix is pre-term labor (even though they're not SEEING the contractions when they do the sono). They're expecting this is what it will be. I think this is the better diagnosis.
If it's cervical incompetence, I think it becomes more involved.
