ok so now this is weird....help
so i got a smiley like i posted before on the other thread at like 1030ish this morning.....and i just tested again and i got a negative wtf????....does that mean i missed it???....im so pissed because i got an error reading last night and this morning when i tried to test does that mean i would've gotten a smiley if those two tests worked and now i missed my window???
eta my dh wont be home until 5 tonight so wont be able to  until later tonight im so upset now that those freakin error tests messed up my chances, what do you girls think????

Yes you could've missed the beginning of your surge BUT that does not mean that you missed ovulationg.
Say you would've got your first +OPK last night then you ovulate; 12 hours after the + OPK you would ovulate which would be this morning sometime. You then have 12-24 hours after you ovulate that the egg is fertile. You can still tonight and hold onto hope that magic will happen.

ETA: I used 12 hours as an example of the shortest time possible. Remember that you have a window of 12-48 hours of ovulating after you get your first +OPK so you may not have even ovulated yet. I was just giving you worst case scenerio.

ok so i could've missed my surge....how long should a surge last? in other words how long would someone continue to get a smiley face before getting a negative usually?

I only ever got one smiley. You will O 24-36 after so bd for today and tomorrow and throw in some Thurs if you can. If you bed yesterday or the day before your are good too because the swimmers can live for a couple of days.

Once you get a + stop testing. You're going to drive yourself insane. There's absolutely no reason to test an hour or 2 after you get a +. Chances are you still have a surge but your pee is now diluted b/c you JUST tested.
If you got a + this morning then you will O in the next 1-2 days. BD tonight, tomorrow and Thursday if you can.

ok im totally getting this now after reading all the responses on this thread and my other one
it's amazing i have two children because this shit makes me utterly confused 
ok so i did on sunday but didnt last night and i was kicking myself that i didnt but ill just do what you ladies said do it tonight and then maybe early morning tomorrow before dh goes to work and then i cant on thurs so that will have to do

I drove myself crazy with opks, what worked for me was checking to see EWCM, but some of my friends SWEAR by them
