OK, entering TMI territory, but need to ask

ladies, i am having a VERY hard time with, um, being "stopped up"...

has anyone taken the milk of magnesia tablets? if so, how long did it take for them to work? and how many did you take?

the box says take 2-4 pills, so i took 2 to be on the safe side... but here i am, 14 hours later, and nada...

should i take 2 more? should i take 4 more? should i continue to wait? WWYD?

my RE only recommends: colace, Metamucil, Fibercon for constipation....

did you speak to your OB about the milk of magnesia?

I swore by Colace my first trimester. It was the only thing that helped "release" things. I took it every night.

i am a doc and have seen pregnant patients get liquid milk of mag all the time... but i did call my OB to make sure about the pills (i don't do the physician heal thyself thing Chat Icon ). i was told that milk of magnesia and miralax were fine.

i'm trying to stay away from the miralax cause it's a powder that you have to dissolve in water, which grosses me out... but i may have to try it if all else fails... Chat Icon

You poor thing! Fiber One bars work for me! Sometimes it won't be until the next day, but it is such a relief.

What about like raisin bran or bran flakes? I am sure you've tried those too! Chat Icon I'm sorry, it is such an awful feeling!

Re: OK, entering TMI territory, but need to ask

I have never been regular and while not pregnant, I discovered charcoal tablets. They were a godsend.

I took two with every meal, and while they turned my poop black, I went to the bathroom every morning after my morning cup of tea.

Since getting pregnant, I have stopped taking regularly because I couldn;t find any info online about it being safe to take-- but when the constipation got so bad, I asked my doc and he said it was safe to take.

So, ask your doc-- and then go get some. It helps to push the toxins out (i.e. POOP).

Miralax is the only thing that works for me, and I have IBS . My OB said it was fine to take. Once you desolve the powder in water or whatever, it has no taste , just mix it well .

This is the brand I use... By me, they have them in Target, but I usually just buy in bulk Chat Icon from drugstore.com.

Re: OK, entering TMI territory, but need to ask

I have had constipation issues my whole life and it has been TERRIBLE this pregnancy (esp since I was on the Zofran). Fiber and colace did nothing for me, so I was told to try Milk Of Magnesia. I used the liquid one and I took the maximum dose (I had the condensed liquid and I think it was 2 tablespoons) because it was so bad. It worked but only after about 24 hours. I was expecting relief withing 2-6 hours like the bottle said and was getting nervous that it was taking so long to work, but it eventually did.

ok, so maybe i will wait it out until the 24 hour point and then take another dose.

so much for the "overnight relief" that is advertised on the package Chat Icon

Re: OK, entering TMI territory, but need to ask

So I am the Queen of Constipation Chat Icon I take so many Rx's for m/s that the side effect is I can never poop on my own. I take 2 colaces in the morning and at night. I also take 4 metamucil's (the pills... not the kind you mix with H2O) in the morning and at night.

Even with all that, I sometimes only go once every 2 or 3 days.

what about prunes or dulcolax? I got the dulcolax in the hospital right after delivering DS. It helped a lot.
