Oh yeah, that left a mark...

Bella bit me this morning. She NEVER bites...

DH and I were playing with her and I picked her up...she buried her face in my shoulder laughing and took a HUGE bite outta my upper arm.

I screamed because she didn't stop right away and had to pull her off and hand her to DH because it made me cry in painChat Icon

I now have a small bruise and some bite marks.

How the heck do you discipline that???

She was VERY upset and cried when she saw how upset I was and how up in arms DH and I were...but 3 minutes later she was tearing azz down the hallway playing with me and DH again...so we dropped it. We explained that it was wrong...was this right?

I think what you did was perfect. She knows by your reaction that what she did hurt you. She most likely did it because she was excited.

I don't know what to do...we are in the same boat! Last night Noah bit my husbands boobies really hard! He screamed so loud and Noah just thought it was funny!

I hate when he does it...but he does!

I think telling her that what she did was wrong, is all you can do right now...

If Julia didn't get what she wanted, she would scream and run over to me with her mouth open and try to bit me!Chat Icon

I would tell her NO, and say that hurts mommy, and she eventually stopped doing it...now she just screams and throws herself on the floor.....Chat Icon

I agree. I think your reaction was exactly what I would have done.

One thing you may do is next time you're playing the same game, repeat the words you said to her after she bit you (unless they were *(&@#) - "We're going to play but NO BITING, right? No hurting Mommy."

Don't forget to write this down in the baby book. "You bit me today hard enough to cause a bruise. When you are 16 - you are grounded for 2 days"Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Oh yeah, that left a mark...

Yup, our daughters are DEFINITELY cut of the same cloth! Chat Icon Chat Icon Alex bites. She used to bite A LOT, until I started disciplining her. If she tries to bite me, I will literally put my finger in her mouth and "unhinge" her. I tell her in a stern voice, NO BITING ALEX, YOU'RE HURTING MOMMY. I immediately put her down on the floor, and walk away from her.

She gets VERY upset and starts crying, usually, runs towards me, hugs my legs, and then I'll give her a hug and tell her I accept her apology Chat Icon Chat Icon

EXACTLY what Bella was doing...I was still smarting from the bite so she lost interest and left me.

I wasn't sure how long to "be upset"

If you search my posts, I actually posted an IDENTICAL dilemna about 3 weeks ago. I didn't have any idea how long I should allow her to be upset before giving her a hug back. I think at this age, they're too young to give them an official "time out". With Alex, as soon as she starts crying and runs towards me, I hug her and tell her, I know you're sorry. It seems to be working because she hasn't bit me in at least a few weeks! Chat Icon

Re: Oh yeah, that left a mark...

OUCH!!!! That happened to me once as well. I screamed in pain and cried after Michael bit me. I didn't really discipline him because it was a playful accident (he doesn't bite either), but he was upset at how upset I got. He hasn't done it since - thank goodness! Those little teeth HURT like he!! Chat Icon

I hope your bite mark heals quickly!
