oh, dear goodness... I STINK
SO bought those downey smelly pebbles to throw in the laundry.
i'm getting a headache just wearing my clothes. how do people stand this??? i'm going to run to target to buy a shirt to wear for the remainder of the day. i cannot stand this any more.
yuck. major chemical smell headache. this stuff is not or me.

Oh I love those.
I soak my sheets for hours in them.
The smell wears off pretty quickly IMO
By day 2 I don't smell it anymore

I can't stand laundry smells. I use TJ detergent only, when I was on vacation I used the detergent that was there to wash before going home, and I had to rewash twice to get the chemicals out.
If you like linen spray there are millions on etsy you can use, with real essential oils. Like real lavender will promote sleep, fragrance lavender will just cause cancer and disrupt your endocrine system.

Laundry scents give me headaches too. I stopped using detergent with scents years ago haven't used fabric softener sheets in over 15 years.

I know your being sarcastic but "scents" are protected as trade secrets so Downey doesn't have to tell you what chemicals they use which make up their scents. They'll say fragrance which could be many toxic chemicals.

Yes I do. They used to make really nice lavender sacks you can throw in the dryer if you want a smell. They're reusable like 10x but don't remember seeing them recently

The scent of lavender,real or carcinogenic, makes me naseous for some reason. It actually gives me anxiety rather than relaxing me.

I use the Gain tropical sunrise and love them. It helps so much with the dog blankets and my couches. They smell clean for a couple weeks.

Right if you think about it- your car interior, that new car smell, all chemicals from the plastics, your couches, your carpets, if you refinish your hardward floors. DD's new furniture had that "new" smell for weeks.
You really can't avoid it unless you put yourself in a bubble.
Unless you are ingesting the downey beads on a daily basis or working in their factory for 20 years, I can't imagine how the second hand scent of it on my sheets, which by the way have been diluted in a huge amount of water in the washing machine, is going to kill me.
I think the Diet Snapples that I guzzle like they are going out of style will kill me first.

I'm not so worried about the scents being cancer causing - I suppose I should - but I only use unscented because strong scents give me a migraine. It's so weird that when, say my SIL gave us tons of clothes for DS passed down, the laundry detergent she uses just stays forever. And my MIL too. It's not that I dislike the scent, in fact I love the smell of Downy, but any heavy scents kill me after a little while.

I get what you're saying. It is hard to avoid every single potentially dangerous chemical because chemicals are in everything, but it isn't just 'second hand scent'. It's on your skin practically 24 hours a day (if you wash your clothes and sheets with it). Skin is absorbent and the chemicals are absorbed into your body.
I personally know 4 people fighting cancer right now, a 5th in remission and a 6th that just lost their fight. That's all in less than 2 years. My relative, co-workers, friends,... almost everyone knows someone fighting cancer. I don't think it's a joke (or a reason to be sarcastic) if someone wants to try to avoid the chemicals that may or may not be causing it.
All experts agree that cancer is on the rise. Our government doesn't protect us enough from companies using chemicals that are known to cause cancer. Chemicals that are banned in other countries for being dangerous are legal here, used in our everyday products, and protected under proprietary formula laws. I don't know why that's a laughing matter or a reason to make another poster feel like his/her concerns are illegitimate

With all the unavoidable chemicals and carcinogens we are exposed to on a daily basis, why not try to limit them as much as possible?

I buy unscented laundry soap or Arm & Hammer or Purex, since they are clean smells. I can't stand floral, mountain spring, etc etc. Makes me want to vomit!! I washed a whole load in some Tide Lavender stuff once and had to re-wash it all! So nasty!
