Officially trying! and questions
Hi Everyone! So, I can't believe it myself but dh and I are ttc. I'm such a planner and a researcher in every single other aspect of my life but when it came to this, I bascially know nothing. I read over the first page on the TTC board which helped but I have a few more questions...and Im sorry, Im sure they have been asked before.
(For now, btw, were trying on our own, BD every other day or so and seeing what happens). Also, I never really kept track of my cycle much so not sure if its 28, 29 or 30 days. Ill figure that out next month if nothing happens this month.
So, first question,I always have heard (and know for a fact) that you can get your period while you are pregnant, but, will you still get a positive reading if you are actually pregnant but if you got your period after the 2ww. I know that sounds stupid but Im really not sure
I was supposed to see my gyno right before we started ttc but had to cancel, now i hae an appt for the beginning of March (is this okay??) and also, since I didnt kept a script forepore-natals, I bought over the counter but now Im getting nervous about feeling so sick on them and Im getting confused between info that says take before bed and other info that says take with food. A friend of mine (a pharmacist) who is ttc herself said you can really just take a multi vitamin and double the dose. Anyone do this??
I thought i had more, lol, guess not. Anyway, thank you girls in advance! Baby dust for all!!!!

Re: Officially trying! and questions
Hello and welcome!
I take over the counter prenatals and my obgyn has said that they are fine -- take ones that have DHA in them. I take either the Target Brand prenatal - 2 pills, or the CVS brand prenatal - 2 pills. I found that the One a Day brand made me feel a bit off.
I take them before I go to bed.
I wouldn't everyother day -- you will get way to tired of it! I have a pretty regular 28 day cycle and I ovulate between CD 13 and 15 (I use the clear blue easy smiley OPK to know for sure).
I have been pregnant twice (unfortunatley both ended but we know the reason why now) --- and these are the days we cd 11,12,14,15,17 and ovulated on cd 14, and then 2nd time cd 9, 10,12,14,15,16 ovulated on cd 15
It's fine not seeing your gyno before trying as long as you are up to date on your checkups Did you just come off of BCP? If so your cycle might be messed up for a little while.
Hope this helps!

Re: Officially trying! and questions
BD every other day may tire you out if you do that all month long (unless you already bd frequently). Try to make sure you bd towards the middle of the month. Like the two middle weeks since you don't necessarily ovulate right smack in the middle of your cycle.
If you are currently taking a multi you can switch to an OTC prenatal. I take gummies because I can't swallow large pills. They should have 800mg of folic and contain DHA. I wouldn't double up on a multi! Not all vitamins are water soluble so you can have too much of a good thing. I take them in the morning with food so it doesn't upset my tummy.
It's fine not seeing your gyno right away before you start TTC esp. since you do have an appt coming up. I recommend making a dentist appointment soon too. I hear your teeth get bad during pregnancy.
Good Luck, hope your stay is short!

Re: Officially trying! and questions
welcome! i would suggest starting an otc prenatal instead of doubling up on the daily multi vitamin. i take them with food and have had no problems this far. I wouldnt stress out over not seeing your gyn in advance. I saw mine just bc i was due for an annual, and she didnt do anything differently...all she did was give me a prescription for vitamins which as it turns out my insurance wouldnt cover so i ended up with otc ones.
as far as every other day - go for it! That is the same routing DH and I are on. and its not bc we are ttc...its our usual "routine". I will admit, this was our first month ttc and i decided to use an opk...when i got a positive i tried to do it 3 days in a row...and well it didnt work out to my advantage. we have been every other night for pretty much our entire relationship so if it works for you continue with it. this month i vow to not go sex crazy while i am o-ing and continue with our usual lifestyle and am hoping for better results
good luck to you!

Re: Officially trying! and questions
My gyno just told me to make sure I take a multi-vitamin with at least 400 mg of Folic Acid for now until I get a positive test.
Like you, my DH and I are pretty much just winging it but I've been keeping track of my chart since my periods are pretty regular. We've been trying to BD every other day but I was sick around the time I O'd so idk if we were able to make it happen or not.
I found Fertility Friend and The bump very good resources as well.
Good luck and enjoy the process!

Re: Officially trying! and questions
Thanks so much guys. Actually, what I meant was, we are BD every other day (maybe every 2 days sometimes) during CD 9 and I guess around 20 or so.
No, we definately do not BD that much...we are like a once a week, once every 2 week couple, lol... but this is good so far. Just I realize that its hard after work when we are tired but well see

ohhhhh, i guess that could be the case. i never thought about that and just coming on to the ttc board, i havent had time to learn everything. so yeah i meant an actual AF, but if thats not what it is, then forget the question, lol. well anyway, hopefully there is no confusion and i get a BFP in another week or so!
