Hey ladies... Figured we could start a GD thread to exchange ideas about what our diets look like, what our recommendations were, and exchange recipes that were yummy.

My favorite lunch so far....
Chicken salad with wheat thin crackers, a peach, and a small side salad with a little ranch dressing for dipping.
= 2 starch, 2 protein, 1 fruit 2 non starchy vegetables and 3 fat.

Cool Thread! I am getting used to the GD diet and its not that bad at all. I have already lost 5 pounds in two weeks(good thing per my dr).
I am getting ready to eat a breakfast wrap: Low-carb pita(trader joes 11g carb) 2 servings eggs(egg beaters) 1 serving shredded cheese. Sliced green peppers Mrs Dash seasoning
I am supposed to add something so this isn't officially a full meal but this keeps me full until snack time. I am not supposed to eat fruit really which I really miss.

Sounds yummy!! Sorry to hear you have to limit fruit. I get 3 fruits a day as long as I stay away from juice and sweets.

I have GD for the second time. I am on vacation so not going to endo until next week.
The only thing I can eat for breakfast is 2 eggs and a half of a whole wheat sandwich thin.
Go to snack is 4 whole wheat triscuits with peanut butter.
I am not looking forward to the next three months :(

Is it normal to feel so exhausted all the time, like I am not getting enough nourishment? I get frequent headaches throughout the day.

I actually found that I felt less tired and have fewer headaches when I decreased my carb intake. My nutritionist said my sugar is crashing after a large meal that is carb heavy.
I do however feel hungry now ALL THE TIME!!! I feel like maybe my meals aren't big enough. I am only permitted a milk and a protein for breakfast, which means 1 hard boiled egg and a plain vanilla yogurt. But by 9:30-10:00 I am starving. I am not supposed to eat my first snack until 10:30-10:45. I've been eating it earlier cause I am hungry now.
Keep it up ladies!! It's a tough diet to follow but we can do it!

I feel the same way about eggs now too! Protein bar is a great idea. Any brand in particular you recommend? I sear if I eat another hard boiled egg I am going to barf! I have been substituting the hard boiled egg for a scrambled egg or an oz of cheese, but still not satisfying.

Yes, the nutritionist recommended Nature Valley protein bars - they have 10g of protein and 14g of carbs. I like them because they're just big chunks of nuts LOL I also like the Luna protein bars but they're not "whole" pieces of nuts, it's a soft bar but they taste delicious.
I cannot STAND hardboiled eggs, so I feel your pain. I typically do scrambled or egg whites, but I just haven't been feeling it lately! Maybe the heat...

Re: ****official GD thread****
I know I totally expected to feel better...maybe I'm just tired today
I do find that I am so overwhelmed by the diet that I have found a handful of things (grilled chicken, cheese, peanut butter, protein bars, greek yogurt, eggs, whole wheat English muffins) and just stick to that. Boring...and boring...And since fruit is a big no no, that doesn't help.
Surprisingly one day I had soup from a the pizza place as a last resort on a super hectic day and the nutritionist said that was worse and she would have rather me gotten a double hamburger on one bun from McD's (the small ones, not like a Big Mac ) and I was shocked! But she said it was worth it for the protein factor.

Today's Lunch:
Salad with spinach, almonds, grilled chicken, cranberries, croutons, and ranch dressing. Not too bad, but when all rationed out servings wise it's not too filling either.

I felt like that the first 2 weeks until my body adjusted to the lower carb amounts. If I felt super crummy I would have a few graham crackers and that would perk me up a bit.

Todays lunch was a grilled chix wrap, with avocado, some cheese, lettuce, and onion dressing on the side. A small garden salad, and some grapes, i think the grapes did me in. My BG after 1 hr was 150, so need to tweek that a bit.

hi ladies.....i am 36 weeks and was diagnosed with GD around 17 weeks! i do have to take insulin but i am also very careful about what i eat. i was a self admitted sugar addict before pregnancy and it's amazing how much you don't crave sugar once you don't have it for awhile! some of my go to meals are:
breakfast: oatmeal or two eggs on one slice of toast with cheese lunch: sandwich with low carb bread (turkey, ham, etc) or dinner leftovers or egg salad or chicken salad dinner: lots of dinner options! we basically eat dinner the same as long as there is a protein. tonight we are having penne and meatballs and instead of having a bunch of penne, i will have less than a cup and then eat an extra meatball :)
i've also found some fast food that agrees with my sugar numbers.....weirdly Chipotle doesn't negatively affect my numbers so i eat that more than i should :) i always get extra meat and i don't eat all the rice. also, the egg, ham and cheese breakfast sandwich from starbucks doesn't hurt my numbers and it's super yummy!
it's hard to do but hang in there! when i was 17 weeks, i used to cry thinking i'd never get through the whole pregnancy without my favorite carby foods but it becomes routine!

I saw the nutritionist today, and she added a lot of food to what I have been normally eating. She added starches, and more carbs. So, I am apprehensive but will try it and see how it goes. And, she said I can have frozen yogurt at dinner when I am craving ice cream!! So, I had 1/2 cup of Ben and Jerry's greek frozen yogurt, and my after dinner sugar was 130!! So, I am happy I don't have to give up everything!

glad you had a good meeting with the nutritionist! mine was super helpful too! is 130 within range for your doctor? i find that so many doctors have different standards. my doctor wants meal numbers 120 or under :(

She wants fasting less than 94, and then less than 140 one hour after meals. Is your 120 one or two hours post meal?

oh makes sense then....mine is 2 hours after meals! fasting my dr wants around 85-90 and honestly that's been my biggest struggle and why i'm now on insulin. my meal numbers have been decent all along but my fasting number was always a struggle and still is sometimes.

Yep. With GD, your fasting and morning sugars will just get worse. Try a spoonful or 2 of natural peanut butter and a few pretzels before bed. I was on a lot of insulin with my daughter. Didn't matter what I did or what I ate. Unfortunately, a lot of that's out of our control.
