Re: Ocean Surf Resort, Montauk?
Not this one, but I've stayed at Gurneys, The Beachcomber and the Wavecrest. I don't think there is a single place in Montauk that's "nice" or updated - they all are very dated. (Wavecrest was terrible, btw...) It's just the way it is out there. The key is finding something clean. Check out Tripadvisor.com and see what they say about it.
We liked the room we had in Beachcomber because it had a walk in closet (instant bedroom for the PNP for DS) and a kitchen with full sized fridge. When traveling with an infant/toddler, it was KEY! We were in room #121 if that helps....
ETA: Here's a link to another thread from last year with restaurant reviews... LINK

I couldn't have said it better. The hotels out there are just not luxurious. That said, the nicest hotel I've stayed out there is Montauk Manor. It is definitely a bit more updated than the others.

Re: Ocean Surf Resort, Montauk?
I agree with the other reviews. As for the Ocean Surf Resort, it's nice. Clean. But like the other places a bit outdated.
I've also stayed at the Royal Atlantic. Same scenario, clean, but outdated. I will say, they have these "town home" style places too, they're a bit more expensive but those are much newer and nice. But pricey.

White Sands Resort Hotel in Amagansette
was nice, not that outdated. Theraputic bed
and a kitchenette. It was right on the beach
and few min ride to main streets. It was
quiet and so nice to relax (has outside deck
too). Walking out to watch the sunset on the
beach was the best part.

Re: Ocean Surf Resort, Montauk?
Thank you all very much! By the time we made reservations, the only place available was the Royal Atlantic - where I am writing you all from because the weather is sooo crappy :(
But thanks for the great reviews!! This place is nice and clean and walking distance to shopping and restuarants.
