Re: Wavecrest Oceanfront Resort in montauk
It's very dumpy, not comfortable, and the rooms don't offer full baths (they're stall showers). I actually showered at the Spa at Gurney's to avoid having to deal with the mini stall shower they provided. It was terrible.
I'd recommend the Beachcomber or Briney Breezes resorts. We stayed at the Beachcomber last week and really enjoyed our stay. We had an upper 1br and a walk in closet that DS slept in. They also have a full bath which is key with kids.
Def. stay away from the Wavecrest - no matter how cheap they are. You do get what you pay for.....

Re: Wavecrest Oceanfront Resort in montauk
If you do actually stay, here are some restaurant recs I can give:
Rick's Crabby Cowboy is VERY family friendly and has pretty good food incl fresh caught local fish. We had a delicious Lobster Roll and a striped bass dinner there. They also serve BBQ.
The Shagwong is the BEST place to eat in all of Montauk. Don't let the location or atmosphere scare you away.
There's also a "drive in" restaurant (I forgot the name) but they have the best burgers and sandwiches in town.
Anthony's Pancake house (and John's too) both serve great food for breakfast - as well as The Bake Shoppe. The line is long at the Bake Shoppe, but moves fast.
Stay away from the Lobster Roll ("Lunch") place on your drive there. It's TERRIBLE!
Gossman's Dock is fun to walk around, but the food is greasy fast food quality and very overpriced. Most is probably frozen. You're not going to find fresh fish there. I'd stay away from that if possible. Inlet Seafood (at Gossman's) might have good food, we didn't eat there, but heard it was ok.
There are 2 new restaurants near Gossman's Dock (Clemente's and another one... can't remember the name.) Both were EMPTY so we skipped over it, but may be worth a try as well.

Re: Wavecrest Oceanfront Resort in montauk
We stayed at the Wave Crest a few years ago and liked the resort...We also stayed at the Beachcomber last summer and thought the rooms were a tiny bit nicer, but we didn't like having to walk across the busy street to get to the beach. The view at Beachcomber was also obstructed by the electrical lines and cars speeding by. I was disappointed and missed the beach front location at Wavecrest.....which Beachcomer does not have.
We all much preferred the view and sound of the crashing Ocean waves at the Wavecrest....much more peaceful than the sound of cars.
