oatmeal in bottle for reflux?

ds is 7 wks and has reflux and the medicine that he was taking was making it worse(axid). Rice ceral helped him a lot but it made him constipated. Our dr. told us to try oatmeal in his bottle b/c it is easier on his stomach. It seems to be working but he is sleeping all the time. Has anyone tried oatmeal like this and had the same thing happen?

I have not tried oatmeal in the bottle since both DDs tolerated rice cereal fine, but at 7 weeks, DS should still be sleeping alot. Chat Icon

Re: oatmeal in bottle for reflux?

I use the oatmeal in dd's bottles also b/c they were alway soo constipated with the rice. I found that they're sleeping better at night but still awake a decent amt during the day they'll eat every 3 hrs during the day and stay awake like an hour/hour and a half after they eat then sleep till next feeding. I only put 1/2 tablespoon in 4 oz though compared to a whole tablespoon of the rice b/c its make the bottles alot thicker than the rice, and i got the bigger size nipples b.c it was harder for them to eat. Maybe your d/c is getting tired from sucking on the nipples to hard, the oatmeal is alot thicker. I would try going a size up on the nipples and see if that helps.

Re: oatmeal in bottle for reflux?

I use Beech Nut Rice cereal in our DD bottle. I will always use this brand since it is all natural. DD is a little constipated but she still has been going every day or every other day. I tried oatmeal by gerber 1st and that was a disaster..lol..I will try the Beech Nut Oatemal and see if it helps with her gas. Ava is also on Axid and I swear it does nothing for her. She has been on Zantac too and that didnt help her either. Thank god we have an appointment this Friday with the pediatric Gastro..so I hope to get some help or answers.

Re: oatmeal in bottle for reflux?

My dd was on oatmeal in her bottle for severe reflux (the rice made her constipated)

We didn't notice a difference in sleeping...
but the oatmeal worked for us!
