My DS is turning three this year, but was born after our district cut-off date. I would like to enroll him in nursery school, but have the option of enrolling him in the 2 year old program or the 3 year old program.

What would you do?

Will he repeat the program for two years before PreK?
My son was born on Dec 9th, and our district cutoff is the 1st. He did a 2-3yo toddler program last year and is in nursery with 3-4yo now, and will be in PreK in September. I would probably keep him with the same group of kids even though he will always be the oldest.

I agree. My twins are December 2nd and our cut off is the 1st. They are in the 3 year old program now and the oldest in their class and they will be in the 4 year old program next year. But I think they are right where they need to be with their friends.

Nursery School Ques

My DS is the youngest in his class. He is 12/28. He misses the cutoff (12/1) but he does better with the older kids so we are keeping it that way and he will go to K early in private school

my dd bday is 12/14. she entered a 3 year old program at 2 1/2. She is going to repeat the 3 year old program next year than move up with those kids to the 4 year old/preK class. I saw a few kids in my older dd's class get upset when everyone else was "graduating" preK and moving on to Kindergarten and they had to repeat the pre K class again next year. I would rather my DD repeat the 3 year old class and then move up with the kids who will all be entering K together. Especially since she is still young enough now to not really know or care that she is repeating a class and making new friends.

ETA- realized I didn't answer the question lol. I would enroll him in the 3 year old program.

I'll be doing the same and keeping DC in his year. In fact, DC is going to a summer program with the 4 year olds. When they told me I could enter the 3yo or 4yo group, they also said that the 3yo kids may not all be potty- trained. My DC has been trained for over a year, so it seems more age appropriate to have him with the 4yo group.

Ours mixes 3,4 & 5 (Montessori).
I find this ideal.
DD is born 2 weeks after cut off & this will help her not be too bored.
