Nursery Flooring - Quick Poll
DH and I are starting to clear out our guest room to get it ready for . Right now, there are hardwood floors thoughout our house, including all bedrooms. We are debating whether or not to leave the hardwoods or lay a carpet in the nursery. I think carpeting makes the room 'cozier', but I'm not sure if the allergens that come along with carpeting is the healthiest.
What type of flooring will you have in the nursery?
TIA!

Re: Nursery Flooring - Quick Poll
I say hardwood with a nice throw rug. Our carpet is pretty much brand new in the nursery so I don't have the choice. However, if I did I would choose hardwood. It is so much easier to spot dirt, dust, and just keep clean and sanitary in general. The hardwood is also better if your child ends up having allergies. If you did do carpet, I wouldn't allow people in the nursery with shoes on. Although, then peoples smelly yucky feet are rubbing all over your carpet so either way it is kinda gross (I know I am crazy). Hope that helped and you don't think I am out of my mind.LOL

We have carpeting and i prefer it. We have HW throughout the house but carpeting in a bedroom where a baby may be playing on is softer and i feel easier to clean (besides spills). im constantly cleaning my HW you get dust bunnies and crumbs you have to sweep it and wash/polish it - its much less of a pain to vaccuum a carpet ( and quicker)
We put DS activity mat in his room and its soft underneath and i dont worry about him banging his head.
To the PP who said about taking shoes off i would think the same rule should apply for HW, dirt will just as easily get on that as well

If you are out of your mind, so am I because you just mentioned all the things that were going through my mind!
Carpeting gives rooms such a warm feeling, so that's why we are debating it, BUT the germs are what is weighing on my mind. We also have a dog and that is a recipe for a germ fest in the baby's room. Ahh IDK what to do! lol

That's exactly how I feel. I like the softer surface and sweeping, swiffering, polishing my hardwoods is just annoying. I'm actually dreading doing it right now... lol I guess a 'no shoes' rule in the baby's room is a great idea and could solve my problem. Thanks!!

We have hardwood floors in the whole house.
We are doing the nursery with hardwood and a large area rug. I find the wood so much easier to clean. I grew up with carpets and I feel like hardwood is cleaner to me. JMO Plus we have pets too so I would prefer hardwood everywhere.

We too have hardwood throughout our home...I read somewhere that hardwood is best for the babies because there isn't as much dust compared to a carpet. (I forget where I read that). We however, did put down an area rug.
(there are some pics in my profile)

We have carpet in Em's room. We have hardwood throughout the rest of the Apt. Carpet, to me, is much quicker and easier to clean than the hardwood IMO. It takes me a lot longer to get my HW floors shiny! And if you have a needy baby, then you have no time to do anything

We have carpeting but I wish we had hardwood. It is much easier to clean & throw rugs are just as cozy. Hardwood also looks so beautiful. With wall to wall carpeting we rent a rug Dr. every 3-6 months. It's a PITA but DH & I are clean fanatics.

Carpeting. I do feel like it's easier to clean, but more importantly, it's softer landing when they fall!

I like hardwood with a small area rug. You can always clean the rug easily or replace it if it gets very stained. I have a small room though so I wont require a very large rug, the big ones might run a little more expensive.
