Nuchal translucency--what can I expect?
I am scheduled for Thursday--I can't wait to see the baby again!

It is basically a sonogram and either a doc or a tech will measure the folds in the baby's neck. Other than that, I can't remember there being that much to it.

Just a regular sono, they measure the folds and fluid behind the neck. I also had to do a blood test where they check for Down's and Trisomy. It's a finger prick in the office and you give 5 drops of blood on a card. Enjoy seeing the baby.......that's the BEST part!!

It's a simple transabdominal sonogram and a finger prick of blood....
They measure the back of the babies neck. Babies with chromosomal abnormalities usually have an extra fat pad at the back of the neck. It is thought to be caused by poor circulation in the fetus due to heart defects...

yup same as the other girls said. a regular sono where they measure the fold of the baby's neck. there are certain ranges that are "normal" and "abnormal." It is not a diagnosis however for any kind of problem, but a doc may recommend additional optional testing if things come back abnormal/questionable (such as an amnio) if you want to be more sure of your results. it's also sometimes an ultrascreen.
My baby was super uncooperative for the doctor and kept doing back flips when he tried to measure  so I got to see him/her for almost 40 minutes. It also usually includes a blood test - most girls say they had a finger prick but I had the blood taken in the arm.

I'm thinking they will probably do a transvaginal sonogram for this, since I have extra fat around the middle...thanks to PCOS. 
I'm excited to see how much bigger the baby has gotten!!

I have extra fat too...no worries...and they have always done regular sonos for me. I have not had any transvaginally.
The baby will look more like a baby this time around!
