Nt scan.... UPDATED - no great news....
Going this afternoon. Can anyone tell me what to expect. Do they do it intervaginally or on the outside. Sorry for a silly question. I'm just excited/nervous!
UPDATE:
So I went for the scan - it look awhile for LO to cooperate. Everything looks ok there, however, they said they need to wait for the blood results to be definite.
While I was there, I asked about my urine sample - had protein in my urine - had to pee in a bucket for a day - everything turned out fine.
My doctor came in to talk about the OB panel - everything came back except 1. She told me that I have a premutation for Fragile X. I'm not exactly sure what it is - however, there's a chance that my child could have mental retardation. I'm devistated - I knew everything so far in this pregnancy was too easy.

Re: Nt scan....
Mine was mostly external. But, due to issues I have I also needed an internal. I loved my NT scan and getting to see LO for so long, good luck, and enjoy it!
ETA: I also had the finger prick blood work done.

Re: Nt scan....
Mine was external only, but it is sometimes necessary for them to do an internal sono. You'll also have a few drops of blood taken via a finger prick.
Good luck and enjoy! It is so awesome to see the baby actually looking like a baby!

I even hate the finger pricks, lol. I'm such a baby I know!!
I'm going to my drs office. Although, I could go to Katz if I wanted to. Just thought its be easier at my dr and get the ashkenazi panel.

Re: Nt scan....
External as long as they can get the measurements from the baby. Otherwise, they may have to do an internal.
And you're lucky that they'll prick your finger for a blood test. I had to do it myself and mail it in!

I've never had a finger prick for any test in either of my pregnancies. It's always a vile for me.
Hope everything goes well! You should be in there now!!!!
(Mine was only 10 minutes too, Antonella!)

Sorry to hear that ... try to stay positive - a chance is exactly that - a chance. It doesn't mean anything yet! I'm assuming they'll do some additional tests and you'll find out more so good luck

Nt scan.... UPDATED - no great news....
Stay positive! After my NT Scan I was told I had a 1 in 13 chance of having a baby with DS. After the CVS that came back fine and the NT results were wrong. The geneticist also explained Fragile X to us and if I understood her correctly it seems like there could be several mutations on that chromosome but it doesn't necessarily mean the baby will have mental retardation. I think it depends on the number of mutations and if it's a girl since there are 2 X's it's not as big of a deal if there are SOME mutations but even if it's a boy there has a be a certain number of mutations...
Have they set you up with a genetic counselor yet or asked you if you wanted to do additional testing? The genetic stuff can really be overwhelming. Definitely ask to talk to someone and ask as many questions as you like until you are satisfied with the information you have. Hang in there!!!!

My dr office gave me a number, but that was it. She explained that it can be a range of disabilities. From mild LD to severe mental retardation to autism.
I tried calling, but it was too late. Im not sure how I feel about an amino. I'm just sad. I'd like to know the chances I have - based on my numbers - to pass this on to my LO.

Re: Nt scan.... UPDATED - no great news....
It's definitely a personal decision on whether or not you want to do a CVS or an amnio. I did both and looking back I would have refused the CVS and just waited to do the amnio.
Getting news like this is always sad and extremely frustrating. When you speak to the genetic counselor you'll get more information and be able to make a more informed decision. Until then try to stay positive, as hard as that may seem...
Good luck!!!

Re: Nt scan.... UPDATED - no great news....
im so sorry for the news you received but try to remain optimistic. meet with the genetic counselor and see what they say. as the other ladies posted, they can do more tests and you can get more clear results if you choose to go that route. im pretty sure my doctor explained the permutation does not mean its a guarantee that anything will be wrong - its just a chance
hope it all turns out ok

Nt scan.... UPDATED - no great news....
i am so so sorry for the news! Please try to stay positive and keep inm ind that this is just an indicator, a scan - its nothing definitive. Many women have gone in for additional testing and their all have normal, happy babies today...for peace of mind, i think i would do the genetic testing though...
