NT scan today! With question!
So I have my NT scan today, and I'm feeling a bit uptight and nervous. I guess mostly because I have no idea what to expect, and I always fear the worst. Soooo, what exactly should I be expecting at this visit?! I'm just praying for all good news!

Re: NT scan today! With question!
wishing you lots of luck today on your scan! My scan is today too, at 6pm and i don't know how i am going to make it through the day, i'm so nervous and hoping everything goes well!
I know that they do a sono to measure the baby and check to see how much fluid is behind the neck. I think most places tell you then and there is the amount of fluid is normal or high. Meanwhile you get to see your LO again!
Wishing us both lots of luck today!

You'll get a sono where they take measurements of the thickness behind the neck. You'll also have a small blood test where they prick your finger and drip a few drops onto paper. They compare everything and then you'll get your results usually in a few days. Some sono techs will tell you right after the sono that everything looks good. But some wont so dont' get alarmed if they don't say anything about it. Good luck!

Re: NT scan today! With question!
I had mine yesterday. Don't be nervous...it's exciting! It's probably the first time you're going to see your baby looking like a BABY! And you'll see him/her moving around, stretching, flipping, etc.
They take some measurements of the space where the spinal cord is closing, look for a nasal bone, check for 2 arms, 2 legs, a stomach, a bladder...I think that was it.
If you haven't already done your blood test, they'll take blood from you then. If you have already, you'll get your results immediately.
Good luck...and have FUN!

Good luck!! My only tip for any of these scans is to always speak to the doctor after about any results. They are able to tell you things that the sono tech may not have noticed. It happened to us.

This is exactly how mine went.
I never met with Dr. it was all done by the sono tech. She never said anything about how things looked. The office said they'd call if I needed to come in to discuss results, and if they didn't call everything was fine. I met with Dr. at my 16 week appt to go over results, and everything was great.

Re: NT scan today! With question!
It was a good experience for me.
You lay on the table, they put warm gel on your belly and they do an external sonogram. The room is dark and relaxing (to me at least). The technician moves the wand around your belly to get different views of the baby. You get to see it all on the screen. It's pretty cool. The technician takes measurements of the baby, but it's all on the computer. You just hear a series of beeps, and she types things into the computer. I got several screen shots of the baby from the technician.
The doctor came in next, and she looked at the baby too. I got a few more pictures from her, and she said the baby looked great. Everything was measuring perfectly. The full results wont be sent to your doctor for 5-7 days.
Good Luck!!
