I just wanted to share with all you that are delivering at North Shore in Manhasset that I got a tour of the new wing and its beautiful! All of the rooms are private with private bathrooms! They are really nicely decorated too! So excited!

Yay!!!! I am excited for this. Is the new wing being used yet? Someone told me the new and the old maternity wards were being used and it was luck of the draw when you checked in. I hope that's done with now.

Re: NSUH new maternity wing
i just delivered at NSUH. i labored and delivered downstairs in the old wing and then recovered in the new wing. i think this is standard practice.
as for the tour, i booked mine around 28 weeks or so and was going to take it around 33 weeks or so. but i was put on bedrest and never took the tour.

Yes....that is absolutely true! L & D is on the 3 floor. They actually have 3 floors for the Katz center as well. But as Dolphinsbaby wrote....it is a matter of luck. I was hospitalized at NSUH for 2 weeks and saw what goes on. L & D is on the 3rd floor, the NICU is also on the 3rd floor and so is the high risk area (which is where I was in). If your baby is in the NICU the main point is to keep you on the third floor to be close to the baby. Otherwise, you have 3 floors where you can be put in.
According to the information provided by the nurses....I was told that since they opened the new section, many women want to deliver there now and they fill out fast. In fact, before I left, there were two patients who had delivered and since there were no rooms available in the Katz center, they were put in the old wing until a room will open and then transferred there. To their credit, they are trying to have everyone experience the new rooms for at least a day or two.

I dont get it? Do you get to choose or request where you stay or is it random based on availability/luck when you are ready to deliver? Do you have to take a tour? How do you arrange one?

You don't get to choose where you stay, is based on availability. If there are any beds available in the new Katz Center after you deliver, then you get to go there.
You don't have to take a tour to be at the Katz Center. You can arrange a tour by calling the hospital
