Not a good appointment today

So I had a dr. appointment today and it was just supposed to be a normal OB visit with a cervical length check and the FFN test. Everything was going fine unitl she did the cervical check. She asked if I had been having any pressure and I said no. So she prints the sono and tells me that she'll meet me outside. Right then I started thinking something was wrong. So when I gt out there she tells me to have a seat in the dr.'s office and she'll be right in to talk to me. So now I KNOW something is wrong. She finally comes in and tells me that my cervix is shortening already and that I have to be on strict bedrest until further notice. Chat Icon And now I have to go to St. Charles tomorrow to meet wit a high risk dr. to get a second opinoin on everything. She said this is more common with twins but it is definitely something that has to be kept a close eye on. They are also waiting for the FFN results to come in to see what they say. Im just praying that it's negative! My last day of work was supposed to be Saturday but now it turned out to be today! I just cant believe I have to be on strict bedrest. I know it's the best but Im just not one of those people who can sit around and do nothing ALL day, especially for the next 3 months! Chat Icon

If you've read this far, does anyone know of any situations where someone was put on bedrest and then things improved so they were taken off? Im just hoping my Chat Icon Chat Icon can manage to stay in there awhile longer!

Re: Not a good appointment today

The same thing happened to me with my twins. I was 25-26 weeks and my cervix started shortening. They were sending me to the hospital for bed rest until the babies were born!!! I ended up getting in to see Dr. Kofinas (a high risk dr) and he was able to put in a cerclage stitch to stop the cervix from opening and though I did stay out of work, I was able to go past 36 weeks and delivered my 100% healthy Chat Icon Chat Icon And though I was not allowed to work, I didn't have to be on STRICT bed rest, just really take it easy. Good Luck!

Re: Not a good appointment today

Sorry!

I went through this as well. I was put on strict bedrest for about 3 months due to a shortened cervix. The bedrest worked and I was taken off at 35 weeks (almost 2 weeks ago). I was also given the FFN test many times, and it came back negative.

Trust me, I know how much bedrest can suck. I didn't think I would get through 1 day, but it went quicker than I thought it would. Here are my tips:

- Shower everyday and get dressed. It will make you feel much better than being in pjs. (I sat in the shower to avoid standing for long)

- Catch up on books you want to read, movies you want to see, rent seasons of tv shows.

- Try to pick up a new hobby. My DH bought me a new camera so I spent alot of time learning how to use it (and taking lots of pics of my bedroom lol) I also took up knitting.

- When people ask if there's anything they can do - ask them to come visit. On the weeks where I had visitors lined up, those weeks flew by.

Try to relax. I know it's hard and it's boring. But it works.

I am so sorry you are going through this! I don't have any advice for you yet but I have a feeling I will be in the same boat as you some day. I see Dr. Kofinas as well and my cervix is already on the short side of normal and I am only 11 weeks. I go every week to have it checked and as of yet no bed rest but I know its a possibility.

Just remember it's not forever and it is just to make sure your little ones are safe! Hang in there and keep me posted!

Re: Not a good appointment today

i don't know anything about the cervix shortening and bed rest but wanted to send you a Chat Icon and say that it's hard but you will get through it!

Also - this may not be an option but you might ask your doctor if you can go out and about in a wheelchair bc this is kind of like bed rest bc you are not standing etc. . it does take some emotional getting used to if you have not done it before but if there are times you just NEED to get out or want to go around this might be an option and worth checking into..

I'm so sorry Chat Icon
You will get through it, though. I am such a huge believer in bedrest. I was never placed on bedrest. But, since I work for a school system, I basically put myself on bedrest for the last 6wks of my pregnancy....and I made it to 38wks!
It is boring, but you can get through it. Just keep thinking about those LOs and how worth it all of this will be in the end.

Hang is there. If you have to go on bedrest it's only for the good of the babies...

I was in and out of the hospital numerous times with my twins. As hard as it was I just wanted them to be healthy and not born too early.

Re: Not a good appointment today

I was put on bed rest for 5 weeks due to a shortening cervix. I found out by accident, I was in St. Charles because of a bad virus and they did a sono and than they found out cervix was shortening. Bed rest didn't improve my cervix but it kept it from getting worse. Once I hit 35 weeks and the baby was a good size I came off bed rest. Bed rest isn't fun but its for the best of the baby and you.
