Non-RSVP'ers that end up attending

How do you handle people that do not RSVP and then all of a sudden say they are coming right before the event? I am throwing an event on Sunday and I already have my final count in and my seating arranged...RSVP was 2 weeks ago, so I put them down as no.... and today I just found out they are coming Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would seat them with the most annoying people in attendance.

Can you be honest and just tell them that your final numbers are in and everything is already settled. When you didn't received their RSVP you took that as they weren't attending. Sorry we would've loved to have you but your Sh!t out of Luck....Chat Icon

I don't know...as annoying as it is, in the end its a celebration...and if these people want to share that with you, then I feel you should fit them in. I might joke with them and say "you're killing me, the rsvp was 2 weeks ago! but of course we'd love for you to be there." Then maybe next time they'll be more responsible lol

I would be annoyed but as long as the venue allows you to add an extra person or two to the head count and corresponding seats for them, which they usually do, I would just make arrangements to include them. I usually contact non rsvp'ers a few days after the rsvp date has passed to inquire whether they are coming. Except for certain members of my and DH's family whom I have learned over the years will never rsvp and never show up.

Yes! ITA! Or with people they don't know at the table by the DJ or by the kitchen or by the bathroom. This is one of my biggest pet peeves ever.

Agreed, though I think it depends on the type of event, too. A wedding, I can see being annoyed. A baby/bridal shower- eh, just stick 'em in where ever they fit.

Re: Non-RSVP'ers that end up attending

If it's only a couple of people, it's annoying but not a big deal. Most parties I have had, there's always someone who can't make it last minute due to illness or family emergency. I know who the people are in my family who don't RSVP so I call them ahead of time to find out if they are coming.Chat Icon

I'd be happy to have them come. They are not really a non-rsvp, just a late one. Non rsvps who show up at the event without notice would be annoying.

Thanks all. I guess I should have hounded them but based on a prior party I had, they never RSVP'd and when I had followed up, they said they weren't coming, so I wrongly assumed the same this time. I had to rearrange the seating which was a bit of a PITA (Since they are BFF with my aunt and uncle I had to seat them specifically with them) but I guess I've learned my lesson for next time.

So annoying. Sit them at what I call the "misfit" table.

You are way too nice. There is no way I way I would have gone out of my way. Actually I'm lying I used to but not anymore. If you don't rsvp I don't cater. As you can tell this is a sore subject.
