Non Dairy Yogurt

Please recommend what you give your DC

DS is 8 months and broke out in a rash around his mouth from dairy yogurt. The rash went away within an hour. So the doctor said to stop dairy yogurt and we can try again in a month.

Also if your child had a reaction like this did they out grow it?

Non Dairy Yogurt

Most children will eventually outgrow it. Dd was on Alimentum, but did fine with the dairy yogurts at 6 months.

For now you could do a So delicious coconut milk based yogurt and try again in a month.

Non Dairy Yogurt

My DD was allergic to dairy. Cheese, yogurt, butter, milk - she broke out in hives. She only just outgrew it at 2.5.

Re: Non Dairy Yogurt

I've cut dairy, eggs, and nuts from DS' diet to see if his eczema improves. He currently eats so delicious coconut milk yogurt. He likes it.

What is Alimentum? Formula?

B never has a reaction from me eating dairy through breast milk so I am just confused if he really is allergic or just a little sensitive.

I am gonna look into the So Delicious, because he really did enjoy the yogurt

Alimentum is a specialized formula by similiac. Dd was on it although was never diagnosed with a dairy sensitive or intolerance. She just did so, so much better on it than when I was nursing or other formulas.

I bet B would like the So Delicious yogurts

Was it totally plain yogurt or was there a fruit or flavoring in it? Seems strange to me that there would be no prior reactions to getting dairy through breast milk. Also, was this the very first bit of dairy eaten since starting solids?

ETA So Delicious greek style coconut milk yogurts were the lowest sugar and highest protein & fat i found in non dairy, non soy yogurts. you can't match the protein and fat content of cow milk yogurt with the alternatives, so just keep that in mind if you're dropping nursing sessions too. fat is important.

Yes totally plain yo baby nothing added

And it was the very first bit of dairy.

He had no other reaction just red around his mouth not even hives just red.

The doctor said it could be that the cow milk protein is a little "heavier" then breast milk protein and that's what could have bothered him so I should reintroduce it next month.

He has had little patches of eczema but nothing horrible and nothing cream doesn't fix (doctors don't think it is related to dairy since it is isolated to certain areas not his entire body)

I will look into the so delicious Greek since he really liked the yogurt

Re: Non Dairy Yogurt

At 6 months I introduced YoBaby yogurt to my DD. Two hours later, she was vomiting for hours. A week later I tried Gerber Mac & Cheese. Same reaction. At approximately 11months I had her tested and sure enough, she's allergic to milk. She was exclusively breastfed and never had a problem with me eating dairy, but she can't take it directly. She now drinks almond milk and eats So Delicious Coconut Milk yogurt. She loves it.

Re: Non Dairy Yogurt

Coconut or almond milk yogurt. Just watch out for carrageenan, it's in a lot of those yogurts and it is thought to cause cancer Chat Icon
