Re: Nokomis Elementary-Sachem
I actually went there- just for kindergarden though - then we moved.
this was in 1988 - but i remember loving it, my mom liked the school too.
I would go on greatschools.net, attend a PTA meeting, etc. I wouldnt go on just one persons opinion.
what specifically didnt she like about it?

Re: Nokomis Elementary-Sachem
I know her feelings are related to her job experience there, but you would think that even if you had a problem with the administration/other teachers and you were speaking with someone whose children would go there, that you would share positive expereinces too...

Re: Nokomis Elementary-Sachem
If it makes you feel better. I am a teacher in a well respected district that people flock to and you couldn't pay me enough to send my children there. Do I think the children in the school I work in are getting a bad education, no I don't at all. But I do not agree with using students as guinea pigs and some of the things that the district does. Our test scores are consistently very good to excellent but I just don't like the attitude that is displayed in my school by the administators. So while it's a highly desireable school you couldn't pay me to send my children there.
Sometimes as a teacher you see things that you don't like at all and it can cloud your judgement. You have to learn to be objective about what you see and don't like. Like I said people think the district I work in is great, but I as a teacher would never want to send my kids there. The students in my district are getting a fine education there are just things that I know that I wish I didn't.
I hope that helps at all. I don't even know if it made sense. If you have concerns call the principal and arrange to come in for a visit or call the PTA and talk to the liason from that school.

I would think so too. And I have to agree with Jaime. Lots of people moved from all over to my district just for the schools and sure there were things that I didn't like, but that doesn't mean that the kids weren't getting a good education. Don't let someone's opinions coming from a teacher's point of view get you too upset. There's so much politics and personal conflicts that go on in school districts that can sway a teacher's view of the district (and I think that happens everywhere), but that doesn't mean that someone would have a bad experience as a student. I don't know the specifics, but it sounds like she was unhappy at her job and her bad experience is clouding her judgment. I'm sure there were lots of great things going on at the school and lots of great teachers, but sometimes when you are in the middle of something you hate you forget about those things. But knowing that Logan would be going to that school I seriously would have hoped that she would put a little more thought into the comments that she made.
