no milk until 15 months

Has anyone had their peds tell them to hold off on weaning to milk until 15 months? Even soy?

I dont 100% agree with my peds overly cautious advice to not wean my dd yet.

She is on alimentum but i dont get why i cant even try soy.

Anyone hear of this

Is she on Alimentum due to a milk allergy? DD was on Elecrae and as per the GI we didn't start introducing milk until 15 months and did so slowly. She was eating cheese and yogurt sooner and did well. Really it is up to you but I was scared to switch followed the GI's advice. She was perfectly fine with the milk though and probably could have started sooner.

It was never confirmed(no blood in stool) so may just be an intolerance or hard time digesting it. She would get diarrhea bad and inconsolably cry be fussy unable to sleep and very bad painful gas. Shes been on alimentum since shes 3-4 months.

I guess cause my friends children were on alimentum and they were able to do it at 12 months. I guess i just dont agree with how iverly cautious he is.

He said to try other dairy to see how she does. Ive been giving her whole milk yogurt and shes fine. So i thought that would be a good sign.

I just wanna be done with the formula already.

My DD was placed on Alimentum at the hospital for suspected intolerance. Her stool never tested positive. She was fine with dairy (cheese, yogurt etc...) when we started solids. I weaned her from the formula at 12 months one oz at a time (1 oz milk, 7 oz Alimentum...). She had no issues with it at all. She's 3 now and is fine with dairy. My ped said to start weaning her at 12 months.

I stayed on nutramigen until about 15 months. Then i started gradually adding the milk. My ped. Said no soy because most kids that have milk protein allergies are akso allergic to soy. You could try almond milk.

DS was also on Elecare until 15 months.. He had a milk protein allergy AND soy allergy. They go hand in hand... He is now 3.5 y/o and is still allergic to soy... Soy milk isn't that good for them either.. You can try weaning at 14 months and do it very slowly. It took DS a good 3 weeks to completely go over to milk and it mace him very constipated for weeks after that..

Thanks everyone. Its good to hear other moms waited and were given similar advice. I love my peds and know hes great but sometimes hes so conservative in his advice when it comes to formula switching and especially food. Hes made me so nervous about things i feed her and i just dont want her to have bad eating habits.

My DS had a severe milk protein allergy, blood in stool confirmed. The GI specialist told us to start introducing milk in the bottle at 12 months. I tried it and it worked out well.

No but mine didn't really push us to even give milk. We give DS almond milk instead, he loves it.

We were on alimentum & switched to whole milk around 13 months. We had him tested prior to switch. We were also already giving vogurt.
