EDITED 2 more q's...Did anyone start milk before 12 months...and one more q...
DS is 11 months, and I am in need of formula...daycare teacher told me to just start giving increments of milk, but ped had said to wait for 12 months.
Not sure how I feel about this one...
AND...when you give milk, what is the best milk to give...(brand-wise) I have heard the Tuscan is free of most extras, but what about Trader Joe's???

ETA: Did you warm it all, or just straight from the fridge??

Ds was breast fed but at 9 months I started giving him soy milk (not as harsh as reg milk) while I was still breastfeeding. At 10 months he was having soy milk and red milk.By 11 months he was fully on whole milk he was fine.

You can start transitioning at 11 months without a doubt.
We use any Organic Whole Milk. Mostly Horizon.

ITA. I started around a week and a half ago and they are 1 next week. I use Nature's Promise organic or Kirkland brand.

we started at 10.5 months. DS drinks organic milk...different brands, depending on where I'm shopping. Tarder Joes Organic, Horizon @ Pathmark or Target, Target's own brand, or costco (Kirkland) brand. Trader Joes sells a gallon for $5.99 and Costco sells 3 half gallons for $9.99.

Call your ped, if they don't have any milk sensitivity they should have no issues.
The real reason for staying on formula even that long, is to make sure they get nutrients. If he's eating pretty balanced meals he doesn't really need formula anymore.

My PED stops cold turkey, and since DD is a big spitter I wanted to take it slow. I did an oz per week mixed in w/ her formula...by her birthday she was fully on milk. I've tried Trader Joe's & Horizon and it does not sit well in her belly. So I just use regular whole milk. HTH

I was told that once she hit 11 months to start using up the last of the formula we had and transitioning to milk by the ped.
We actually started mixing with millk at 9 1/2 months due to my DD refusing the formula. by 11 months we were on all milk. This was also ok'ed by my ped. They stated that they like to make sure that they get minimum of 16 oz of formula up until 11 months. So thats what we kept to.

We got the green light at 11 months to switch over completely to whole milk, but only if DD had a lot of iron in her diet.
As for brands- we do organic...I get my milk from Trader Joe's or BJs.

We transitioned at 11 months. We did one ounce of milk the first day the rest formula, 3 oz of milk the next day and 5 oz of formula and so on....DS didn't have a problem except that he got constipated.

We are starting to wean DS off formula and on to milk at 11 months as per our ped. We are doing 2 oz increments per week.
